Ride to work. Take pics.

Today the AMA and the U.S. Department of Transportation were promoting national Ride to Work Day by allowing bikes to park in the plaza underneath the latter’s building in downtown D.C. It's only a couple blocks from where I normally park so I joined in the fun. Got a free t-shirt too! The bike turnout was pretty disappointing but the office workers seemed to enjoy the steeds adorning their plaza. The AMA and USDOT reps were passing out t-shirts and MSF goodies to anyone who expressed an interest so perhaps some good was done.

In terms of bikes, Harley Davidson was best represented, though none of them were as cool as JeffHoggy’s. Jeff! Throw in a handful of Gold Wings, a smattering of sportbikes, three beemers (including mine), a couple skewters, and one scrumptious Norton, and you have the idea. To the pics then . . .

And forthwith to the excessive number of Norton pics . . .

I think that's the first time I've heard that today.

I, too, ride to work every day. Saw only 2 other bikes out today, one of which I pass by almost every day.

Didn't take any pics, as that is most definitley NOT the way to survive a commute on GA400, but on the way home I had a fucking BIRD fly UNDER my bike IN BETWEEN both wheels. Scared the SHIT out of me!

You are quite welcome. Me, I just kissed the A/C after I parked the GS this afternoon. Damn, it's hot over here.

Hey Mush Man - Nice report. I miss DC. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay and spent my maturity in Boston, but I did a year in DC on assignment in 2001. That was the very best motorcycle city I have ever visited. All I had with me was a MZ thumper, but every time they had city motorcycle doin's (and it seemed every couple months on Sunday mornings), the cycling crowd welcomed me right in somehwhere along the middle of their line (actually the first time I thought I was Shanghaied!)

I have no idea what these doin's were all about, but it seemed they had to do with 'veterans' or law enforcement. But no matter, it was big fun for me.

Thanks for your post.

God I love that first picture. There are angles on the futura that make me fall in love with it again and again. I would have rode mine to work if I wasn't in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico...
