Welding or Frame Repair Sydney

G’day all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a welder in the North or West of Sydney that could weld up a few gussets and realign LHS foot peg mount on an xr600 frame before I get it blasted and powdercoated?

Cheers,
Scott.

Nick Dole at Teknik Motorsport Penrith. He has done frame repairs for me and I have seen him doing XR600 frame and foot peg repairs before. He has all the gear and knows all about XRs.

competent

Anyone competent with TIG should be able to do the job. Not sure if the frame is CrMo or MS. The right weld procedure for CrMo helps prevent cracking.

Then again it is an XR, maybe a farm mechanic can stick weld it with GP's

Thanks TB650, I had thought of Nick, he's done work on some of my older bikes. I'll give him a call.

And Rider, I know its only a basic job but I dont own a welder, or know how to use one that's why I want someone who can do it.

...and the beauty of owning an XR is I can get it welded by a farmer in the back of the bush if need be

Scott.

Any bike frame will be high carbon steel. No MS.... unless it is extremely cheap and heavy.

dead right

Dead right Scott,
we welded a countershaft sprocket on a XR600 with a farmers welder. Got us out of trouble and did another day of riding. Says a lot for bikes without all the modern bits.

Make sure your frame is TIG welded. A good operator is like watching a surgeon. I get to work with some of the best pressure welders in the country. I wish my welding look half as good.

I've spoken to Teknik and they can do the work but I'll have trouble getting out there during the week.
Has anyone used Chivo's at Granville lately?

Scott.

Is Laurie Alderton, or his son, still at Wetherill Park? I have had them do a frame frame repairs once before.

Empire,

Yes mate I went to Chivo's about a month ago. They built me a 19" xr front wheel..

I'm in the process of tossing up whether to buy a mig or just spend similar on a fab place to do the frame mods for me...

Repaired an alloy wheel (VTR250) that was bent & split. Including postage to & from Sydney, I had it back on the bike in about 8 days. It was really difficult to see that the wheel had been repaired once the tyre was fitted.

And he didn't charge a bomb.

Cheers for the feedback guys. Ended up going to Chivo's out of convenience (Open Sat mornings) got the job done O.K. However I think I'll be investing in a welder some time soon. I reckon I could have bought a basic one and did an equivalent job....ah well win some / lose some...
Next step, cleaning up the blobs and prep for powdercoating.
