Question

Oh, yeah. What does TET stand for? Maybe trans and trail, but what about the E? Maybe I should know, but I lead a sheltered life...

A ride report is a difficult thing to accomplish. A real time ride report is an exercise in extreme commitment. I commend the three of you on that note. Please continue, no matter the circumstance.

Behave on your return. The BRP/Skyline is much more shall we say "watched" than what you have just run. Relax and pay particular attention to the signage.

Enjoy.

Update from the field.

I'm posting from Raccon Holler Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC on my iPhone typing with one finger !

I will post pictures later.

We have had amazing riding in VA , WVA, and NC . camping last night was great

Keith left today to head home. I'm headed south then east to get to Raleigh by Friday afternoon . Jim is headed to visit some friends in Boone.

It is hard to post pictures from the field even at the hotels the "high speed Internet " is too slow to upload photos. Impossible almost for videos so we will add when we can and we lots of photos and videos so this will be and ongoing project.

I'm using a Nikon D600 and the full frame photos are too large, 21 mb , I have to resize each before I upload.

More to come !!

The roads just go on forever. In New England you may get a few miles of uninterrupted dirt and there are houses on these roads.

Here in VA and WVA we have been on roads that go for 10-15-20 miles with nobody around.

Lots of smiling !!

The roads are in really good condition. Definitely big bike friendly.

Burks Garden is beyond description. The dirt road going in and out was loaded with switch backs and steep sections. But no problem with the 660 lb GS

Just breath taking.

When we stayed at a motel we would flip a coin to see who got the pull out. This one was particularly bad and it was Jim's turn.

At least we had a good meal. BBQ ribs mashed sweet taters and hush puppies. This place had a BBQ sauce bar and you could try as many as you wanted.

More smiles.

We were camping last night on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Raccoon Holler Campground .

Playing with the camera.

Keith had to leave us today to head home. It was great riding with him.

Camping out of the bike.

This was one of my favorite roads. It's not part of the TET but we found it trying to get back to the TET after we went to find a motel. Keith described it as a billy goat path. I have video of this that I will put up later.

This is the road coming out of Burkes Garden and is part of the TET. It is gravel and dirt. It took us almost an hour to ride this. Videos later.

Great stuff Mike.

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Front Royal after leaving Jim and Mike at Raccoon Holler this morning. The KLR with TKC80's is not an ideal touring bike so I wanted to stay off I-81 as much possible. I jumped on the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 260 and just kept going. The Blue Ridge was beautiful but went on forever. I wanted to take Skyline Drive since I didn't know when I'd be back down here.

Over 11 hours and almost 400 miles later I pulled into Front Royal exhausted. Anyone try to ride a KLR 400 miles on one day? Not recommended!

The warnings about Skyline Drive were accurate. I nearly got pulled over twice by the rangers but only got a brake check each time. Also saw lots of deer and even a black bear. The views on Skyline are terrific though. Lots of bikes out today and no tourists this early.

I'm still over 500 miles from home and thinking I need an 800GS for the next trip.

A quick up date.

Keith made it home to day. He did 400 miles yesterday and 500 today on his KLR. Now that he is home I'm sure we will see some great video clips.

JIm is honkered down in his tent hiding out from thunder storms near Roan Mt.

I'm in Raleigh tonight then Winston Salem for the graduation on Sunday.

The plan is for me to hook back up with Jim sometime next week. Monday I'm leaving early and slabing it to Tellico Plains
and then work my way home by the weekend.

More pictures and videos soon.
