Good question, the /2 cranks each time I try and runs like it should. Very little issues with the /2. Gotta love the old airheads!

Just needed attention. Like we are sometimes.

Thanks gents, all good info, I think I'll take it apart this weekend and see what I can find. A flush and new fluid can't hurt...
DOT 3 fluid for the ATE disc brakes?

DOT 3 will work.

We are supposed to use DOT 4 but if not available # 3 will work. They mix. BTW they also mix with water, they are hygroscopic. They absorb moisture from the atmosphere. This causes corrosion in the system and the brakes are supposed to be thoroughly bled every year. That is enough new fluid run through the system to completely change all the fluid.

Do not use the fluids that do not absorb water. They are not compatible with our systems.

Thanks. Was accustomed to using DOT 4 for the later models with Brembo brakes, wasn't sure about the ATE system. Did NOT know that 3 & 4 were compatible, always kept them far apart for fear of confusion.

Presumably the shockingly expensive synthetic stuff (DOT 5.1, if I recall correctly) that my KTM asks for is not hygroscopic?

I think you are right the 5.1 does not absorb water. It is Synthetic. Supposedly compatible with 3 & 4 but nobody has told me we can use it.

DOT 4 has a slightly higher boiling point than DOT 3.

Some guys never get a break....I hate it when a brake is broken. I broke a brake but then got a break when the broken brake unbroke itself.

I usually go broke when I work on my brakes. Think I'll go sit by the brook and contemplate this.
