From J-Tree to Vilcabamba on 150ccs

My Partner Joe posted on here last week or so, but anyway, Hi my name is Sophia and I've been riding for about a year. In less than a week we set off from Joshua Tree National Park and head for the US/Mexico border. We'll explore here and there, visiting friends and volunteering, spending weeks and weeks in Guanajuato and Mexico city, before we make our way to Jamaica (we're still figuring out what to do with our bikes for that bit) where my family is from.

Eventually, we'll hop back over to Mexico, continue south through El Salvador, Honduras and etc. then ferry our bikes around the Darien to Columbia and continue the journey south until we reach the picturesque village of Vilcabamba in Southern Ecuador where we will live on a farm as part of an intentional community.

Our initial plan was to only be in Joshua Tree for a few weeks with Joe's folks, but I was diagnosed with breast cancer literally two weeks before we were supposed to hop on our bikes and ride with the sun rising on our shoulders. It's gone now. GONE. But it was good. Well, it was actually the worst thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life, but it gave me a lot of strength. I'll need it.

If you'd like to follow along on our adventures be sure to check out

I hope I didn't break any rules, but if I did...I'll be posting again the morning we set out.

Happy to be a part of this community

We look forward to seeing you in Ecuador! Vilcabamba is a very healing place and you will love the community there. Enjoy your ride! Let us know if we can help in any way...

Break all the rules your heart desires to celebrate your victory over cancer.
