I enjoyed following your adventures and by gosh, that's what they were. Ride safe the rest of the way to close the circle.

oh thats right, the Alamo, I should have remembered that. Now I'm in Austin, ready to battle the heat and continue on the slab to Nashville.[/QUOTE]

For clarification, the Alamo is not in austin, its in San Antonio.
Glad you made it that far. Will be watching to see the rest of your trip.

Any more to this story? Sounds like one of those things you had to see.

Well, riding in a shower of oil, adding 2 quarts every 100 miles, lots of fun slabbing it to Nashville, not.

Stopped in Palestine, TX looking for some Hummus or Shawarma, had to settle for a burger at a place called Hershel's.Then over to tractor supply for a 2 gallon jug of sae 40. 2 quarts and away I went,

finally getting out of Texas after 600 miles.

Got to Benton, AR at 10pm and found a much nicer room than the fleabag motel in Austin, Wi Fi didn't work, but seems it is my laptop finally giving up the ghost. 2 quarts and away I went.
Onr of my 100 mile stops was at exit 47on I40 in TN at the 47 truck stop. This place is a step back in time to what truck stops were in the 50's before Pilot, TA and the rest Mctruckstopped them. Dirt lot, s few trucks and a lunch counter with a woman cooking home made inexpensive meals. Not to many trucks there so who knows how long it will remain, but if you're passing by, stop in for a $5 meal and step back in time.

Got to Nashville around 6pm.

Total mileage 8,200. 4600 in USA 3600 in Mexico

Right away I got out my tools and removed the valve cover and found that the nut on the left front head stud was hand tight (or hand loose). I tightened it down, put everything back and ran the bike for 5 min, no leak. I'm not naive enough to think that is the end if it, but maybe I dodged the bullet.

At the Nashville public library since no wi fi working on my laptop, pick of the last 2 days will be added to this post asap..

I'd like to thank everyone who made this trip the memorable experience it was. The ADV community as well as the JMA community made me feel welcome in new places. Trip planning section and "Is Mexico Safe" thread gave me the confidence to do the trip.

So much is left to see so as soon as I can. I'll be back for more, on the V-Strom this time.

Mitch

Glad to see you made it home (or at least to your truck) safe. Glad to have met you and followed along in your travels!

Can you imagine how arrogant one must be to piss off an Israeli?

I knew that. I was just clarifying for this that didn't take Texas history in school.

Yep, too bad, I just finished reading your RR,

http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=895856

You were in Pueto Vallarta around the same time as my friends James and Nicci on their DR650,

I wish I had your eye for photos, they were beautiful and evocative.

Next time you go, (there will be a next time I;m sure) get to the south, and take a day to enjoy Guadalajara, you won't regret it.

I know; now add to that the fact that I know you, and you are one of the least arrogant people I know...
