To Buy 2002 or 2005 KLR650
I'm a newbie - about to make a big decision about my first KLR650. On the one hand, I can by a 2002 with 28,000 km for $2,600. Seems that the owner hasn't made any mods or replacements.
On the other hand, I can purchase a 2005 for a few hundred more, but also more KM. This one has about 45,000 km.
The interesting thing, and I'm leaning this way, is the 2005 has some interesting mods:
MLS shift lever
Braided steel brake lines
12VDC power supply
New front fender (looks better than ugly stock one)
Shim mod for better fuel mixing
breather mod (good for offroading)
Any advice on which way to go, assuming they both sound great when I check them out?

I'd lean towards the one that has had the balancer lever replaced early in the bikes life, a right side screen clean out and regular valve adjustments over it's life.
If neither has been maintained, then I'd go with the lowest mile bike and get to work on the above needed stuff.
Check for broken subframe bolts, they can really suck to get out...remove seat to check.

I'd buy the cheapest one.
