If you put HID before an evident damage, the part is saved.
In case of even a small burnt, no way: the HID light is not reflected and goes straight to heat up the plastic body - despite to the lower bulb temperature.

Anyway: good news.
Not necessary to buy BMW OEM part: the whole part is corresponding to CEV713-714 (CEV is the producer) code. Let's try to search by Google..

PS - OEM code BM.63127697751
How did you find these numbers Gaspare? I'd like to find the CEV part number for the light sold in right-hand-drive (driving on left side of road) countries.

Cheers.

That's just crazy.

Ya I just change my blown bulb and saw the burn mark. Mine (f650gs twin) is just 3yrs old. Using the OEM halogen bulb. The headlight ventilation build is poor. I have no issue with my other made (Honda or Yamaha).
Looks like I will have to repair it myself using the aluminum tape.

I went down to my bmw agent n was told that it ok. It cause by the heat of the bulb. Just change the blown bulb and leave it. I ask will it be cover under warranty , he say no. I am piss off , cos it clearly the poor build issue rather than the wear n tear. A headlight that would get burn like tat is clear cut manufacturing n build issue. I found a few bike At the BMW agent also having this issue and they were fix by putting the aluminum tape. As below picture a F650GS twin.>>>

If you are still under warranty they should clearly replace it.

In Austria you would fail the annual roadworthiness inspection with a burned reflector, happened to me. Unfortunately my bike was already far out of warranty....

Gave mine a good wash today and saw that my headlight started to melt too. Not crusty black yet but the reflector is getting smoky above the bulbs. It has 39000 on the clock, lets see how far I'm able to go with it.

Mine was out of warranty on 21 July 2013. Mine engine crankcase was replace due to blistering of paint on it, lucky it was cover under warranty. But not this time with the burnt reflector.

Every time my bulb burns out...it melts a half inch of the wiring..and apparently has gotten warm enough to do the reflector damage...

I lose about 4-5 bulbs a year..

I'm at about my 3rd in one year... time will tell but if even normal bulbs are burning the reflector I have no reason anymore not upgrading it to HID =/ (always thought only the HID kit would burn the reflector)
