Can't change back to stock. Its would be hard to explain the 3/4" hole drilled in the rear access disk where the HID harness Grommet goes.

Will the aluminum tape stop the problem from getting worse, then remove the tape before selling bike later?

Just went to the dealer, saw both of our bikes and was told it a wear and tear issue . Tats ridiculous . A headlight tat wear n tear in less then 3years n mileage only 16k. They will write in and see what's the out come. Unacceptable !! My pal is lucky cos his still under warranty. So likely will replace a new one for him . But mine abit tricky , if they recognize that's the issue , they might replace mine in good faith . But if not , then I will just paste the alu foil n see Wat's next.

Yeah, I really couldn't be bothered even chasing BMW for it.

I did a freeway run in a storm last night, 300kms in the dark, with massive side wind and rain. My new light is so much better than the standard light that it was worth suffering the failure just to explore the options. I enjoy riding it in the dark so much more now.

Now I'm looking at HID as an option. With the better optics and reflector I think it will really light up the night then.

I know, but warranty just expired 2 days ago anyway.
Never got a notice trying to sell me an extension, but did get a letter trying to sell me road side assistance.

I called Sylvania

I just called Sylvania - they make the SilverStar Ultra H7 bulbs which is all I have used in my headlight since the OEM bulb burned up. I explained what was happening and asked for their input.

The lady I spoke with was very nice and said that it was not possible (in her humble opinion) that the bulb caused the reflective coating to scorch. She says that the bulbs have the same 55watt energy consumption as a "standard" H7 bulb and do NOT run at a higher temperature than the OEM bulbs.

FWIW .... that's what Sylvania says....

I agreed with the lady. Even mine , using the oem bulb is scotching the reflector.

Just a data point, but I switched out the regular bulb a bit more than 10,000 miles ago for a slim mount ballast and HID (DDM IIRC) and haven't had any scorching issues.
