Birdsville and Diamantina Australia - May 2013 Queensland Run

Hello adv riders,

More of a pictorial than a full on ride report.

The annual Queensland get together is held in May each year and this year the destination was changed from Springsure to Birdsville to catch up with fellow adv riders from all over Australia to remember Tugboat Bill.

Barra, Dirty Boar, Kenno and myself left Townsville at 6.30am with the destination Outback Jack's place at Barcaldine late in the afternoon.

200km's south west of Townsville the dirt starts with only small bits of tar for the next 3000 km.

We travelled via Natal Downs, Kyong and Fleetwood Stations to Lake Dunn, then Aramac.

Lake Dunn

Great BBQ at OBJ's place that night and also met up with Charlie59.

Next day we headed to Windorah via Isisford and Yaraka

Coffee at Isisford, also met up with Sitdownman from Longreach

Meeting up with Speedwobble, showed us a great back way to Yaraka

Plenty of black soil, not the place to be if it rains.

The lookout at Yaraka

Time for a cuppa

Yep that is a finch

The biggest cattle station sign that I have seen

Into Windorah, camped at the pub and met up with Macadoo, Chop Chop and Kato

Next day on to Birdsville. The tar is slowly heading west, a new 100km section.

Phil and Bill have been here, motorbikin!

The hole in the hill

The view from Dion's lookout, looking west towards Birdsville

Birdsville in the afternoon, 36 degrees in the shade.

A shady camp on grass in Birdsville

A few of the group rode to big red while four of us took a flight to get a different view.

Rear Gunner Dale

Co Pilot Barra

Big Red and the QAA French Line..........Reflections and cheers to Bill

Kenno at Big Red

OBJ at Big Red

Due to a few of us having work commitments later in the week we had to leave Monday morning and miss Bill's farewell that evening.

North to Bedourie

Cacoory Ruins

Heading towards Coorabulka Station

And into the Diamantina National Park and our camp for the night

Next day, heading north to Winton for lunch and fuel after a 575 km leg

Dale on the BMW 650

Old Cork Station

The last bit of dirt into Winton where we split up to head for home

The Far North Queensland mob heading for home. Last night camped behind the Prairie Hotel, steaks all round!

A great trip with great company, thank you every one and look forward to our next ride.

And to Bill, you have inspired many to do what we do.

Advflyer, Was not too bad as the dust patches were not sharp edged. The odd bit around a corner got your attention quickly, for me it was keeping my speed at a pace that allowed me time to react.

Craig, nah getting used to the bike plus I run out of talent a bit less than the magic mark.

Unclegra, lady had brown hair and a big sense of humor, made us very welcome. The bacon an egg roles exactly the same, did not need food for the rest of the day.
