Anyone seen this? new 990r shift problem

Hi guys,
I bought a new 2012 adv 990r and have 1350 miles on it in the past month.
So I started out in first gear and went to shift into second, miss the shift. Click it again it went to second and and then third. Something didn't feel right with the shifter, like if was loose and falling off. When I stopped to downshift to first, I somehow ended up in 6 gear. And the shift lever travels from the standard 9 o'clock position to straight up 12 o'clock and is stuck in top gear.
The lever is attached to the shift shaft, but feels like the shift detent (arresting cpl) is not connected. Anyone experience this?

I realize this is a warranty issue, but wondering if this is as simple as remove the side cover and putting the shift shaft together, or there is major transmission damage.

It's a new bike, and the snow has finally melted, and I want to ride!

sounds a lot like your missing a pin in the right hand side case, on the selector drum end. easy fix in that case.

The weld on the selector fork behind the clutch cover has been known to fail.

I've seen photos on here of it before.

Is this fairly easy to fix from behind the clutch cover?
