V8 Supercars live at COTA today

Great racing at a great track live right now (2 races this morning and 2 this afternoon). This is some of the best road racing there is (SPEED channel).

From what I can tell from TV, doesn't look very well attended.

I thought that originally, but the track is so large and with seating so spread around, they actually mentioned something about a pretty good crowd - I hope they deem it a successful event so it keeps happening.

I was hoping it would be well received over there, but the bit I saw on the news made it look like there were more racers than spectators...

So what did you guys think?

The track is condusive to some top notch racing. 4 abreast into turn 1.

How many Texans even know where Australia is? Let alone what V8 supercars is all about.
It does seem that those that were there enjoyed the close aggressive racing.

I think the news said this morning that there were something like 75000 people there at the races. They hope to make it two rounds next year. Might even have Casey Stoner there driving. (Look out pigeons.) If you want to see what V8 racing is like in Australia, look up Bathurst Races. Then see if you can get a look at the track. There are some Youtube trips around the track. They used to race bikes there-- sighs wistfully--- a long time ago.

I watched a couple of races - looked as boring as every other place they race. Except Pukekohe this year, that was pretty good....although maybe I'm biased.

Talking We know where Australia is.

The track is 3.1 miles round trip. Covers a good area. I think i'd prefer super V8 to most racing anyway. Im partial to F1 and Moto GP. I sure enjoy the aggressiveness of Super V8, really stoked that they are adding more races next year. Thanks to the Aussie's for sharing!

I watched the last part of the broadcast. I enjoyed the racing. It's great venue. The cars seemed to make the most of the opportunities it afforded. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. I hope it becomes a regular thing.

TV said the attendance was 68,000 for the 3-day weekend. They seemed pretty pleased with the turnout. For a series which is basically unknown in the United States, that seems like a pretty good number. TV said they expected to return next year and anticipated even larger crowds. I hope they're right.

I wonder why they ran a shortened version of the track?

I have been watching your V8 Supercars for several years, and most of us over on Corvette Forum in the Roadracing section are avid fans - most of us believe this may be the closest racing there is. We love it and hope they keep coming back!

I also believe it is some of the best auto racing in the world, right now. I look forward to catching all races available on TV. Awesome stuff.

Cool2

Although stinkin' hot and not a lot of shade, it turned out to be a great race weekend...

Looks like a blast! Those cars look pretty tough and seeing that pic of the Irwin car "flying the chair" on two wheels, is a treat. Thanks for the pics. I hope to see more racing like it.
