Stalling while idling nicely

My new to me 2004 950 will just stall while idling at a stop sign. While sitting at a stop light at about 1500 in neutral it will just shut off. If I just hit the starter button it will start right up like nothing happened. Sometimes it stall again after a few seconds, other times it will sit there and run for a few more minutes with out incident. I made sure my left foot was off the pegs.Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the same behavior I have seen with my 950. Other threads suggested its a carb/fuel starvation issue and running the bike harder and more often will eliminate it. This strategy worked me. I have been riding it more than last year and have only had one random stall this year. I also have been adding fuel stabilizer every fill up as my 950 is not my daily rider.

Either way, I just consider it an annoyance not a major issue that needs fixed... Guess if I was due for a valve clearance check I would clean the carb while I had it off the bike. That should eliminate the issue.

check the choke cable.

stuck choke will turn the mix richer which under low revs can stall the engine.

I just had that same issue. When I took off the carbs, I saw that one of the intake manifold boots was quite loose. Also, my carbs were pretty out of sync. Once I fixed that up, I haven't had any stalling since.

FYI, this is on a 2007 950 SMR.

I had a torn gasket that was causing this after a valve adjustment. Worth checking out.

Have you checked the valves lately? Maybe a valve is too tight?

Not sure I didn't ask. It was found by 3 brothers in Costa Mesa when they were doing some other work for me, I just assumed it was a cylinder head gasket.
