Puke Freight and dealer set up fees

I'm curious what dealers have quoted for freight and setup on their 1190, both state side and elsewhere. I had a dealer quote $2,000 which obviously is absurd but I wanted to get "hard numbers" from anyone knowledgable on the subject. Cheers.

Getting charged for freight and setup is unheard of here in England but it's all probably just baked into the (high) price.

Thanks for the input Scutty. Needless to say, I'm a bit annoyed with the added charges. I realize that dealers need to make money but this seems absurd. In the past, I have negotiated away said fees, but I couldn't get this particular dealer to commit to anything likely because the transaction wasn't happening that day (I have never looked into preordering a bike before so maybe this is normal)

The dealer closest to me, whose bike I test rode, couldn't answer and that was one of the main reasons I didn't leave a deposit.

Freight:
"Whatever it cost me to get the bike." Sounds like a blank check.

Setup:
"Usually around $500." So it takes 5 hours to assemble a new bike?

Documents:
$125 I think he said. Wait, the secretary wasn't already in the markup?

Actual numbers from KTM to me. (US dealer)

Freight $450

PDI $400

This is what KTM charges me and therefore I charge the same to the customer.

Hope that helps.

shop around...
any dealer wanting to sell me a bike and charges those fees won't sell a bike to me

if you know the benefit margin on a bike, and the extra % if they sell a certains number of bikes a year, they should try and sell as much as ppossible and not charge stupid fees

if it says in the book the bike costs 1500 as it does here, I assume those fees are included or should in no way be charged to the customer

any dealer in these parts, even if they don't know you will give nice discounts in this period in order to get his numbers right by the end of the year

been there, done that

WOW! If you are talking about Santa Fe Motorsports I would find that very surprising.

And yet.

I didn't even have to ask. Pleasantly surprised, and will keep me coming back.

Just went and test road the 1190 Adventure this afternoon. Bike is really nice and so is the dealer who let me ride it. Engine is fantastic. I was planing on keeping my 950 SMR but really no need to keep it!

Ordered an R. No extra fees whatsoever and Scott is really a good guy to deal with!

Yeah I have a refundable deposit down, but I'm not too proud to walk. They said 'not to worry we will work something out" I'm sure we will, like throwing in a new husky 450 to make up for those charges.

I love their level of commitment here.

Thanks!

Thanks Derek, this is very helpful to know. At the very least i can definitively say it shouldn't be more than $850. Thanks

So KTM CHARGES you PDI?

When I worked for a car dealer, the manufacturer PAID the dealer to perform PDI. Destination was a legit charge.
