I just bought a small tent the other day, so might tag along and rough it. I'll see how the browny point accumulation goes.

For the Southern Contingent

Open the file with BaseCamp or MapSource

I have noticed some riders discussing ways to and from the Cape to Cape ride, so being the bastard I am have chucked together a few suggestions for you. I have included Waikerimoana in part of the return route and also the section through the forest from Minginui. However at this point I will add a huge disclaimer!!! That section might not be passable. On Clints ride gates had been erected at the Pohokura end of the road which we were able to negotiate. I have found in the past that you can usually get past a gate a few times then the gate becomes serious about its job.
Puketoi Rd has a big sign that says it is closed, Some of the road has fallen down the hill, there was enough left for me to get through last time I tried. Both the Puketoi and North Range should be considered single track If you have managed Fishers they wont be a problem to you. Feel free to do some on the way up and some on the way home, all or none its your choice. Have fun and see ya at the Cape

Thanks for that. I've got a feeling I may be over riding by the Monday but will load it in.

I must caution you guys that we may be bringing salad forks with us.

It's just a Nelson thing

I am watching the thread - although as a "get up late and stop and smell the roses" type of rider, a plan to do long days is not usually my thing. Will be thinking of ways I could participate and keep the daily km down though..............
Regards,
Michael

Shortest on road route from Cape Egmont to Kawerau is 409 ks Michael. The Cape to Cape route is being done in such a way that should riders not choose to do certain gravel road sections it will in most cases be shorter for them to go direct by tarseal.
The route will be put up as a GPX file and route sheets a week or two prior to the ride. Due to the length of the ride we dont intend to keep the group together. Participants will be responsible for pacing themselves and ensuring they can get themselves from the start to the finish safely. Riders are welcome to use the route as a "suggested" route but basically after the Start at Cape Egmont you may not see some riders again until Kawerau and then East Cape. We have had indications some riders may join or leave the ride along the way. Pretty much Phil and I are going for a ride and you are welcome to join us
Hope this info helps you
Cheers
Colin
