Moving from Husky TE449 to KTM – which one for an old fat fart

I am wondering if there are any KTM riders that have had time on a TE 449 and could give me some advice.

The TE 449 is OK but it’s on off throttle is too much hard work for an old fat fart like me. So if I was after a smoother EFI bike to haul my fat arse around, what would be my options with KTM for a 6 foot 100kg bloke (average rider and a bit of a snail when it comes to speed). For example does the 350 have a smooth throttle response and is happy to chug along the trails.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and should go for a more basic trail bike – DRZ400E.

I just got rid of my TE449 and my Harley for a 2013 990 Adventure. Lots of power and awesome offroad. Since it's a v-twin, it's smooth and doesn't vibrate the crap out of you.

Sounds a bit like the TE has some fueling issues . . . it should be relatively smooth.

My old EXC 530 was "on/off" simply because the IMS was too lean. A half-turn and it ran great.

The FI on my Husaberg FE570 provides considerably smoother throttling but . . . there was nothing wrong with the 530.

I've got a DRZ 400SM with 'S' wheels. It's basic alright. Reliable, decent economy, with all the normal mods (3x3, MRD pipe, jet kit, etc) it's still tame compared to the EXC in terms of power and worlds beneath it in handling/suspension. And it weighs 60 pounds more than the EXC or the Husaberg and feels even heavier. It's MUCH easier to ride my very tall KTM ADV 'S' slowly than it is the DRZ.

It's a rare rider who feels the DRZ is "better than him". :) I always feel like the KTM/Husabergs are complaining about my pace and courage. They are WAY more fun.
