Isle of Man TT 2013

I finished work tonight, and have a couple of days to cut grass, and do other chores before heading off to the Isle of Man on Thursday night for 8 days.

Y2Blade has already started a TT thread in the racing section, but this thread (weather, and upload speed on the Island permitting), will be where I will endeavour to dump a lot of dodgy pictures and a few video clips to try to give you all a feel of what a week at the TT is like.

I enjoy the racing, but the buzz, alcohol, excitement, scenery, alcohol, and atmosphere are what I really go for. Sadly, one competitor has already been killed during practice last night, which will put a bit of a downer on it, but anyone who goes to 'the island' knows the risk they are taking.

That's it really until Thursday, just wanted to see if there would be any interest in me trying to keep a bit of a pictorial diary of the week?

As a bit of a side note, my father (hornet) and I, are going with my brother in law (sv650), and his father(HD sportser), and we will all be staying with my wife's father. Cosy eh?

I still haven't decided what bike to take, this for a bit of trail riding?

or this for a bit of comfort and pillion capability as the Mrs and kids are coming for the second half of the week?

I'll probably decide on Thursday, based on the weather forecast, and of course, what the Home Office wants.

Pictures? Damn right I would love pictures. Sounds also as they come whizzing within inches of your body. This is gonna be good

The sun is shining and the day of departure has arrived.

I decided to take the XChallenge, as it just gives more options. I can do a bit of trail riding if I take the fancy, I can put it in a smaller parking place (eg hedge), I don't mind riding it in the rain and I am less likely to kill myself doing silly speeds over "the mountain". Anyhow, my Dad's Hornet will be there if the Mrs fancies going for a spin.

I stuck her on the ramp for a wipe with an oily cloth, and to look for anything loose.

I am struggling with mounts for the GoPro, I have already wasted two 3m pads in different locations but am still getting bad vibrations. The handlebar clamp isn't great with the tapered bars either and the brake cable obscures the view. There is usually a GoPro sales tent at the Grandstand on the Island, so I'll maybe buy something there tomorrow, or just go for the Teletubbie helmet mount.

Had to cut the lawn and dropped some Castrol R40 in the tractor fuel to get the smell of the 70s racing I grew up with, it always gives me pleasant, motorcycle racing flashbacks. While I was doing it, I remembered that John McGuinness always cuts his lawn before going to the Island, just in case he dosen't come home, eek!

While I was reminiscing, I found this picture of me on the island about 10 years ago, yeah I'm definitely taking the trail bike!

supposedly, discovery is supposed to play it but I only saw it scheduled on Sunday. The iTV player appears to detect region and shuts you down if you are in the US. Maybe UK proxy could get the traffic here?

Waiting for the boss to return

I'll try to add some short video clips later, but they take an age to upload.
