This is going to be a good one. Yamaha has problems, Honda is confident, Ducati just tested here less than 2 weeks ago, Vale has something to prove, Iannone is injured but feeling confident, Spies is back, Hayden says Mugello was his best race last year, Dovi was third last year, Crutchlow is the man of the moment in many ways, Dani quietly leads the world, Marquez???, Pirro is wild carding on the lab bike....

I am here! MM just had big, and strange, crash! Smith also. Apparently both are OK. Neither looked too flash....VR looks like he's on a mission. Already the crowd is going off! And the chainsaws have started. It's gunna be a loooong night.

Marquez had a huge crash in FP2, braking from over 200 MPH into turn 1 (San Donato) on the brakes. He appears to have escaped serious injury. He is undergoing further checks to be sure.

Bradly Smith had a heavy crash also at turn 7 (Savelli) and appears to have injured his left arm. More to come.

my prediction:

Marquez continually stuffs everyone in the corners, bouncing them out.

Marquez
Dovi
Collin Edwards

Everyone else is DNF

I wonder whether Marquez lost an engine there.

Spoke to Spies. Said his shoulder is weaker than he thought. Hoped it would be stronger, but because it's his right shoulder, he can't control throttle and brake at the same time. He's not sure he'll be able to race. Really needs another 2 months to recover fully, but wants to get back to work.

Disappointing but not surprising I guess. Pretty hard to simulate the forces that go though your body while braking (repetitively) on a motogp bike.

He said that it's actually not braking, but the changes of direction which are killing him. He doesn't have the strength to brake, flick the bike from one side to the other, and feed in the throttle. That fine control is difficult to combine with the physical force required.

It seems that this may be a lost year for Spies, the first of two contracted with Ducati.

I'd rather see him sit out until healthy, fit and competitive. He's not doing himself or Ducati any good now, trying to ride yet incapable of really riding a MotoGP bike.

I still have hope for Ben. Maybe he should take the year off and just test the lab bike from time to time.

Seems like Spies bad luck continues.

Rossi in FP2, nipping at Lorenzo's heels, good to see that, he needs a good showing this weekend.

Edit: just watched the crash that Marquez had, that was weird - and he was going fast, he's lucky he didn't get hurt worse!

Too true, he looked like he was in a world of struggle..
