Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"

Some more pisc of Montana.

I just love the abundance of water over here, mostly it seems to be from the melting snow from the highlands.

So after my little stint up in Norris Montana i slipped through yellowstone park.

Now i have been to the park before but this time around everything just seemed way more expensive.

In hindsight what i should have done was get the big golden ticket that is apparently available that covers park entry to all the national parks, as that was / is supposed to be a substantial saving.

So i made B line down towards Salt Lak City. More to come when i get off the bike tonight.

Hey Adrian,
Great to meet you at Q's place. a fine host.
Well I could understand you just fine. And with a little help from that dam swill Scottish ale that Q was constantly dragging me out to get I would say I enjoyed your tales of travels in Russia and China..... Or were you traveling in the U.S. It took three days for my head to clear.
Great end to my ride, Beartooth pass was awesome. Made it home but fried stator and was limping in. Back to work after a month off and already planning next years trip
Stay in touch

john

update 15 july 2013

Well i changed the oil & filter in LA after the run down from Idaho Falls via Page @ 58,600kms & added another Kenda 73P rear $59.00 special & a new Pirelli mt21 on the front. The Kenda that i took off still had a good couple of thousand kms left in it which was surprising given the high speed runs at 130 kph at 40deg c heat. So it lasted from LA to Canada and back. Hence another one was put on.

I stopped at Page for a while & was refueling, but was having trouble with the fuel pump. After muttering a few inpleasantries to myself and anyone else who was within earshot a bloke pulls up next to me in a F150 & says are you ok, do you need a hand with anything.

A few words exchange & they offer me a bed. So Nate & his lovely wife Laura & two sons enjoyed some aussie stories & a bit of bike talk.

Nate took me out in the side by side canam for a run around his back yard to show me some sights after a great nights sleep & some bacon & eggs in the morning.

Was surprised that they can drive these on the roads over here and they did 100kph easily.

The power plant near Page.

The heat out there was dry heat similar to western Queensland summer.

From Page i slipped down through the Grand Canyon, having been there before i didnt spend much time there this time round.
So i wont post too many pics of the big North American Black hole.

I did see this and wondered what they had been smoking though.

Don't listen to him, he is an old senile rider and doesn't know what he is talking about.

So Dave & I set out on our road trip up to Montrose Colorado. 12hour plus drive.

These things suck fuel like its going out of fashion.
330cu inch 300Hp 3valves per cylinder SOHC. My turbo ute has 362hp and burns half the fuel.

Lots of this stuff on the way which was much better in airconditioning.

The first day turned out great in the morning but the afternoon turned cold and wet very quickly, so we were going to go to the horizons unlimited get together but for $49.00 for one night each & a less than welcome greeting quckly scratched that off the plan, we thought the money was better spent in the best western at woodlands at the bar.

I met old mate from indiana, also had a joke with his wife for stealing cookies out of the cookie jar at reception before i realised they were both HD riders. Lovely people in their 70s full of life & great stories.

The bloke on the far right rides like hes in his 70,s.

The next few days were spent doing the various high mountains that dave had planned out. Only the beginning of one proved slightly difficult for the unfit rider & heavy 990.

Cotton wood pass was nice but way to many tourists on a weekend.

Lots of grey nomads in the area & some even have these little suckers.

The sequence of photos is probably out but if i didnt tell ya you probably wouldnt know anyway.

At least i got to ride the 990 in the snotty stuff and quickly learn't the differences between the 990 & the SE. I was happy to be back on the SE, mainly because of its suspension travel, weight and steering geometry.

Two very different bikes in the hills on rocks and steep inclines.

However numb nuts here decoded to get in touch with nature on one of the down hill stretches & turn the engine off only to subsequently cook the rear brake to the point of no rear brake. I must have not had it bled correctly as the air in the line contributed to the issue.

So coming down a mountain of 12,000 odd feet with no rear brake was a lesson in concentration.

Few more random pictures.

old gold mine.

More to come when i have recharged my tablet pc.
