KTM mechanics aren't too bad... its just the parts you gotta worry about.

No Place Like Home

Adrian,

Glad to see you are pretty much home. Didn't do much at our place. Maybe it was just time to catch a breath before the next step. Better next time around!

Wicked Final Hurrah

So for his last week in America we took the whining Brit loving Kiwi wannabe to Death Valley.

Ended up sticking him on the Strom, but with his stubby little legs looks like a chicken riding a lawnmower...

I digress...

There was much fun to be had and while sitting around the camp fire each night he started to regale us with stories...they were boring so we ended up telling jokes instead.

The best part was actually making him snort beer out his nose.

A true ride report with pictures will follow at some point in the near future.

BUT

Despite his bow legged sloped brow beady eyed appearance and lack of any and all social graces know to any circle of humanity I can say this.

He knows how to ride a bike in sand.

Good to see you made it home in one piece. Hope the bike passes inspection and gets back into the country as easily as you did

Thumb One last ride

So for Adrians last weekend in the US it was decided we would take him out to Death Valley.
When he first got here the timing was bad due to high temps during the summer, but with him going back to AU in November it was perfect weather for the ride.

We headed out on Friday morning taking as many of the canyon route possible out of Los Angeles to the High desert. Coming in from the North we headed via Olancha to the 190 and into the Valley where we camped in Panamint Springs.

Of couse we got Bob to come along.

And after about the first 100 miles what do we discover?

Jackass manages to find the one nail of the trip on a near new back tire....on a borrowed bike..
Cant lend the Aussie anything...

We got it sorted and plugged in no time, took about 5 minutes and we were back on the road again.

the long straight road at this point.

And made it into the park.

We get to camp and out of the blue rolls in DannyG and his friend. The best part was the mascot that was along for the ride.
His name is Binky.

Next morning i rode out to do a quick pre-run of the loop I am planning to do in the 4x4.

It was a pretty uneventful ride out to Tea Kettle. Roads were in very good condition despite all the rain storms they had. Went in via Hunter Mountain and came out via

hidden valley.

We rode out to Scotties Castle and met up with the rest of the crew that were on the street bikes.

From there it was a pavement run back to camp via Stovepipe.

Next morning we decided to ride out via Trona to see what the road conditions were really like.

For the most part it is totally rideable on the bikes and in a 4x4 you just have to slow down for the bad sections and use your head.

Well the one bypass we came accross looked pretty solid, but it was deep soft sand.
Soon as I hit it only thing I could do was get on the gas and ride it out, I had no idea how Adrian was doing on the strom in the sand and was in no position to help to I rode it out back to the pavement and immediatly turned around expecting to have to walk from the road to the bypass to pick u a bike, as it turned out he made it through just fine.

very impressive feat.

After that fun little section we made it to Ballaratt and then it was on our way home for the rest of the trip.

I'll bet your pretty nimble, based on the stories from Hodgo there is not a sheep that is safe within 50 meters of you...

I can't believe I'm going to fly half way around the world, just to meet this asshole! My wife was even seriously considering inviting him into our home without me being there! :) We're looking forward to the eventual meet up, believe it or not. My experience with Aussies(and Kiwi's, for that matter), is that they're just as screwed up as Alaskans....their brains are just cooked, rather than frozen! :)
