Just purchase a 2013 990 Adventure Baja? I'm a potential buyer down the road!

I know someone who just took the plunge and bought a badass 990 would probably not be thinking about selling, but I had a plan to finance one for my 30th b-day in two years, (don't really have the finances to do it now) and just realized the unfortunate news (very late to the game) that KTM is killing the bike after this year. I loved this color scheme, and wanted to throw it out there, I'll be looking for one in about two years time. If you like to buy and sell often, (and have a really good memory) hit me up, because I'll be looking.

Don't let the color scheme pigeon hole you into a narrow window of bikes. Just buy white plastics later if that's your thing. In two years there also might be some leftovers floating around. Maybe.

I just can't see the hype over this 990 Baja edition..

Guys! It's a standard 990 with the "R" map loaded in it (can be done, even at home on every new-style-dash 990), with some powerpart farkles, a dual-sport tire setup, and without an ABS.. Even the suspension is non-R.. Okay, it has limited edition stickers, but that's all the difference.. come on.. (so the real difference is only the lack of the ABS!)

KTM is pushing out the last 990's and powerparts for 9x0's left on the shelf.. Marketing it as a "BAJA" edition. That's the true story.. But the bike is no special. A 990 "R" version, with it's taller suspension is way more logical for off-road use. I know - I know.. it doesn't come with the fancy orange crash-bars - which are not even needed if you ride mostly offroad (as you would with a true BAJA bike, wouldn't you?).

Everytime when someone mentions he has a 990 BAJA, my back starts itching.. It's almost like saying I have a 990 with some fancy stickers on it, so treat my bike as something special..

I just can't see why is everybody so crazy about this "edition".

Did I miss something? or is it that much cheaper than the 990R?

Well, I have a 990 Baja, sorry for giving you an itch The fact of the matter is I wanted a new 990 Adv before they go away. For 2013, unless you can find a new 2012 somewhere, the Baja is your only choice. I would have taken ANY 990 if it was new, even a blue one , but in my neck of the woods, it's the Baja or nothing. I do like the standard suspension cause I'm 5'10". I like no ABS and I like white. It's all good.

Go scratch X2 LOL!

I like the white, but prefer the blue. It's the only choice local for me as well. Regardless of KTM's marketing ideas, I wanted another 990 ADV and would have tossed the scorps for 908s anyway. Having the bags , GPS mount, rad guard, sprocket and lighting are a bonus that are functional and practical, not to mention that these parts did not get added into the MSRP.

I found a leftover 2012 a couple months ago. Wish I would have bought the R sitting right next to it. I do buy/sell every 12-18 months and always look at the backend of my current ride for resale.

Down side of the R or the Baja would be no ABS (most folks want it) and you must be a tall guy to hold it up the R model. I have found over the years I don't care for ABS, but most buyers it high on the must have list.

OP send me a PM when your ready, I might still have it...

Smitty

pandaman - I gifted myself a 990 "Baja" (yeah so I'm that asshole) this April about a month before my 30th. By all means, check with 2 years, but for now this bike is perfect will be in my stable for years.

My son will one day ride this bike. The last of the breed.

The 990s are being stopped? Is that only because of the 1190?

I loved this bike and was planning on buying one in 2015... damnit!!!
guess i'll have to go second hand.. :/

Bump of a dead thread. Can anyone comment on the fuel injection of the 2013 990? Any better than previous years?

For those of you out there wanting a 990, the rumor on the street is KTM may be bringing these bikes back after the initial splash of the 1190 is over. Heard a mid year offering. Could be total BS but some of that scuttlebutt was floating around the KTM Rally in Steamboat. For what it is worth.

Coke -> New Coke -> Coke Classic.. One of the best slight of hand marketing tricks ever. Does KTM have the same idea with the 990?

Sounds like total BS.

I could see a total redesigned offering in the 800cc range maybe. They rolled out the 1190 to compete with BMW, so why not keep following suite...in the meantime, I'll stick with my 990.
