2013 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix

Got my Dear Official, letter in the mail today. I'm taking the Tiger out west this year and won't be going to the GP. So, does anybody want the application? Or you could get in contact with the circuit yourself: www.phillipislandcircuit.com.au (you can download the application apparently).
The application needs to back to the organisers by the 27th of June.

Last year was tops, great ride down and back, best view of the race, got to meet up with some inmates, the circuit gave us beer, food and free camping. Got up close and personal with some of the GP bikes.
Even if you haven't done this before, there is usually a job you can do (pick up, standing around looking official, smiling and waving to the FIM inspection team)

Go, have fun.

Pete

I started doing a RR, but life got in the way. So instead I'll just post the pictures. You lot can insert your own words:

Tenterfeild

On the way to Gloucester

Barrington

Sofala

Guess

In the town

Remember going over this when I was a kid

Lunch

Snow

Always wanted to do this road. Apparently it will be all black top in time for this years race.

Maffra, top feed, cold beer, cheap room.

Picking up credentials.

More tomorrow.

Our part of the Officials camp ground.

Where the rest of the riff raff camped.

Flag point 2.6, Buggered if I can remember names of the crew.

Australian Moto3 wild card, Linc Gilding's bike. Chief mechanic explaining a few things to Ozzie and son (club racers from Victoria). Standard Honda RS125 rolling chassis with a Honda 250 Moto3 engine, constructed in a back yard shed. Linc rode the wheels off it.

Linc's office. Notice the two cheap buttons on the left clip-on. $10 Vs $1500 for the factory set up. They communicate with the ECU. The team got technical Information via a contact of David Emmett's (http://motomatters.com/).

Vs Moto3 World Champion Sando Cortasi's KTM.

More bike porn, the Ioda Moto3.

Paul Bird' PBR Racing MotoGP ART as destroyed by Jame Ellison. This crew were totally cool, let us take pictures, answered questions, explained what they were doing, top stuff.

Inmate Matt(in green) and I(the other fool), race day morning (RAAF Roulette's doing a fly over).

After the race.

More tomorrow (or the next day)

Lol, I suppose the morning after a big night I don't scrub up too well. However, where's the photo of you curled up in the back of the meat wagon not looking too flash?

Sent from the missuss iPad, naked in the bath, after more home made rum, on tapa tapa tapa thingy

More pics, (not in the bath, in the shed..)

Packing up on Monday morning. The guy in the background is Laurence, racer and builder of exotic weaponry. The black bike to the far left is one of his. It is a FZR400 rolling chassis with a Honda Blackbird motor, yes that's right. Like, how fast do you want to go?!!

Rode north, over the Black Spur, staying the night at relo's near Shep. Next day it was on to Hume Dam .

Quick one for the road just after opening.

On up to Tumut, then across to Wee Jasper. This was really hard work as the GSX only has about an 2 inches of travel in the forks. It would be tops on the Tiger.

I was really hanging for a beer at Wee Jasper, this tavern look inviting, however the owner (I think) was a bit of a nut case, black eye from a domestic, proceeded to ear bash me for quite some time. Couldn't get away fast enough.

More later...

Last lot.

After Wee Jasper, on to Yass. I thought about trying to find Hunter Greyghost (Baza), but I really had to make some miles. So north to Crookwell, got to Bathurst just before dark, lots of fun dirt on that road spinning up the rear just a bit! Hit a wet Lithgow as the last of the light disappeared. Bells Line of road to Brother in laws at Kurrajong Heights.
Next morning, up the Putty to Dungog.

Over to Nabiac to have a look at the National Motorcycle Museum http://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.com.au/
This gives me an idea for the salt lake in 2015...

Next cool treat at Long Flat.

Up the Oxley, Armidale, tried to get a room at the rather average Ebor pub, $100! No thanks I'll ride on. Nymbioda to Grafton at dark. Had a road house meal, then highway 1 to Byron Bay to overnight at the folks house.

Next day I missed the turn off to the Burringbah (don't how that happened), so after kicking myself over that, I did Maleny to Kenilworth to even up the tyre wear.

And had a beer to console myself.

Next stop was some lunch at Gunalda (should have dropped in on Old Man Muzz (Murray). But I about an hour away from home, and wanted to see the kids off the school bus.

That was that.

Trip route:
Day 1. Hervey Bay - Tenterfield

Day 2. Tenterfield - Sofala

Day 3. Sofala-Maffra

Day 4. Maffra - the Island

Day 8. Phillip Island - Shepparton

Day 9 Shep - Kurrajong Heights

Day 10. Kurrajong - Byron

Day 11. Byron - Home

All up around 5,400 km, didn't keep track of fuel of other expenses (couldn't really give a rats).

No GP this year. Other trails to blaze.

Pete

BTW Matty, I see you have the 660 Tenere. You could always go to the Island via the Flinders...just a thought.

Not long to go now.

I have two camping passes and a general admission pass that I am offering to someone who will make a donation to the Scrapheap Challenge.

G'day Matt,
Hope you have a great time this year. It will be interesting to see how Marc Marquez stacks up around the island in the big league? Still a big call to see if anybody can 'bitch slap' the track into submission like the 'Angry One' did.

Keep us posted over the week end.

BTW, Matty (Tomack), are you still going? make sure you catch up with Matt, he is always surrounded by rather attractive first aid assistants!

Have fun!
