Extended Warranty Questions - 2013 990 Baja

Hi men, let me first apologize for not having searched first.......I'm currently on my way to Phx to pick up a Baja and wanted to ask about opinions on an extended warranty, and was hoping you could all help without me doing a search.

I'm not looking for the opinions such as 'I never get an extended warranty' or broad opinions like that. I've owned many new small engine vehicles and have never bought extended warranties. Never bought them for cars, either. It's also turned out ok every time.

The 990 has me a little more apprehensive though due to its complexities and expensive repair costs.

Regarding 990 Adventures specifically, what do you guys think about a 5 year warranty for $899? Yay or nay? Does any little mod void KTM's warranty?

Within the first 5 years of ownership, have any of you needed to use your warranty or had problems causing you to wish you had a warranty?

Thx for any help.

I wouldn't bother with the extended service contract and you have until the factory warranty runs out to buy it. Ride the bike for a year or two depending on the length of the warranty then decide. You can then shop around for a better deal with out the salesman pressure.
$899 is not a good deal.

When faced with the same decision, I passed on the warranty. I figured I was likely to make so many modifications to the bike they could easily avoid paying out on it. Also, they could easily argue abuse based on the condition the bike will be in after the standard warranty expires.

Further, I guessed the odds of my totalling the bike in some crash was greater than catastrophic loss of engine parts. For that, I have insurance.

Don't know if that helps.

Watch out on the highway with the 908 tire. Not stable. The Corvair of tire combinations.

Thx guys. I'll likely pass on it.

Regarding tires, I'm having them put on some different tires.

The 908 front end has a wiggle when hitting a tar snake or crossing the center line under acceleration and after 2500 miles it has become less of an issue, but I wouldn't call them outright dangerous. They are so good off road that I've actually accepted the trade off. I find them stable up to 85 but they do get dicey above that. I would love to try this bike with proper road tires like the Conti TAs, but I'm hesitant in losing a lot of off road capability. The sandy tracks in FL will most likely not take well to a road biased tire.

What dealer in Phoenix are you getting the bike from? I got mine from Motocity.

I just put .62 fork springs in mine and it helped a huge amount. I'll probably do a road trip to Superplush this summer or fall.
