And of course the event we came for and rode in! The 2013 Erzberg Prologue :)

A view of the Prologue. I have a new GoPro, and user error meant it was taking stills and not a movie. Plus it decided to stop working which is a shame. I think it was too cold for the battery! :)

The marshalling tent, where nerves started to set in

Making way up to the bike check & start

Not sure what this girls job was, but she calmed my nerves as I was perving at her as she was cute!

Start line in sight

Ready, steady

GOOOOooo!!!

First corner, nerves were back, huge adrenalin at this point.

Power on the exit

The surface was horrible. Wet, slidey, but grippy at the same time. Awful to ride on. Plus rain in the eyes.

Second corner. Where to go? I was too excited, and cocked up massively

Shite

Backing out, lost loads of time, not helped by Mr fucking-chuckles there on the left who offered me a map....

How embarrassing...

Off again!

Spot the turn - this is what it looked like, so me missing the second corner was common that day. Was really hard to see where the track went.

Michael had sneaked past me in my corner-cock-up, I caught up with him quickly, but the GoPro stopped working so didn't see my fantastic passing, or steep hill climb :(

So A bit mixed up on timeline of these photo's, but after the main event it was time to head to ol' blighty, nothing exciting, just a motorway slog to get home. On the way it did become very apparent what we'd been camping in though, with massive flooding in Austria and Germany.

So finally, after seeing Graham Javis win, and basically stick two fingers up at KTM and Erzberg for their "flexible rules", we headed off 100km or so to find a hotel, dry, and warm :)

I have to admit it was my first time showering with a tent! :)

What a hotel room looks like after having camped out 5 days in pouring rain and snow

Beeeeeerrrrrr

Coming back across Germany we found that it was not only Erzberg suffering from rain, but most of Austria and Germnay, with most rivers having burst their banks, and more pouring rain. So much for getting dry in the hotel!

An uneventful, if wet, journey home

Michael was at least dry in his head to toe Klim gear

And me trying to pick up this chick

teehee

Quite seriously though it sunk in what appalling conditions we had been camping in! Extreme-Enduro? Phaf, more like Extreme-Camping!

We hit Frankfurt, and all of a sudden SUN!!

Eurotunnel and a long motorway day from Frankfurt to London, and planned maintenance day on the bike coming up!

Erzberg, I will return, and sort out my shocking time :) 27th in the Twins Class was just not good enough. There were only two people how rode the same snowy day that were ahead of me - the rest were times from the dry-day of racing. My goal is top ten :)

It's in the blood now, what a crazy and fantastic event. Just nuts :)

Mad dogs

"Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the Erzberg mud". Looked like a lot of fun, despite the weather.

Hey Ted! You guys made a good move leaving when you did - it just got wetter and more grim.... Half the camp packed up and departed, which was good for us as we milked their left over firewood etc!

Sure thing Ted, look forward to it :)
Will be in a month or so though, as I bought a dream-bike XR650R which promptly blew up, so now I am up to it in a rebuild... But once back on the road again (or trail as it may be) then absolutely! :) Will see Michael in next few days, and we'll plan out a time or event.

Hopefully going to be taking the XR650R on next year's Prologue, but not so sure I'll be camping next time! :)

In Oct I think Ted, as my XR650R build is snow-balling. It will be one mean machine once complete....

Don't suppose anyone knows when next years Erzberg entry opens? The BRP needs broken in on the Iron Mountain :)
