What other essential maintenance issues should be taken care of before I head off on the trip?

I still have to pull the water pump apart to check that, but I'm considering just biting the bullet and buying the CJDesigns rebuild kit.

In addition, I've found the clutch to be a little grabby. I'm going to clean out the oil jet this weekend when I have a spare moment.

Thoughts?

Depends on mileage. The stock fuel pumps tend to go at around 30,000 miles, but YMMV. The stock clutch slaves tend to give up the ghost about the same time, so it's good to think about that before you go on a long trip. Check tires, check wheel bearings, tighten everything up, and ride that puppy.

Fair enough. It has 9800miles, 1200 of which I've put on in the last few weeks. The original owner was a retiree and only put on 1k miles/year. Overall it's in good shape.

Aside from the two things I mentioned then, it's probably good to go.

Hey Mr. Heisenberg!
I'll be starting at 4 corners around Sept 3rd.
Plan to arrive in Steamboat around Sept 10th.
Attend the CJ Designs "Pre-Party" on the 11th and 12th, and the KTM even 13-15th.

Perhaps I'll see you on the trail.
Look for a KTM SE throwing rocks!
