The Thunderbolt port is their excuse to do this, basically they want you to get a 2nd chassis to run your cards in and attach it with a thunderbolt cable to the MacTrashPro.

Also if you need a new video card you wont be able to simply upgrade, you'll need a whole new MacPro.

a lot more options than Apple has.

Though if you configure one the same as a base MacPro it should be a good bit cheaper.

To me it was function over form big time, look at the G4 tower and cube next to it, the G5/MacPro is ugly as hell in comparison.

The reason the whole thing is a vent is the G5 processors needed that, they had 5 fans PLUS liquid cooling. And the G5 MacBookPro's would cook your lap.

Apple Cube 2.0

perhaps an elegant study in design but at the end of the day, who cares what their computer looks like just as long as it gets you home before dark.

speaking of which, It's going to go the way of the cube in 5.....4....3....2.....

Apple never made a G5 laptop.

Oh yeah....forgot the G5 put out too much heat for a laptop, so it was the G4's cooking my legs a G5 probably would melt the solder.

With Thunderbolt 2.0 I would think one could have a video card in an external box. That would leave all sorts of options open for vendors to design new graphics cards with specific cooling requirements.

All that, and still the sh**iest disc tray I ever had the displeasure of pressing a button on. We just bought one of these at work. Nice rig... then I had to use one of those things us old farts call a Digital Video Disc to install software. That we paid for. Yeah, I know. Now get off my lawn!

I am going to guess that most people care about what their comouter looks like. Look at the awesome AlienWare laptops and what they get for them half of which is for the look, and dazzling LEDs. I would also state that many who buy a MacBook over a PC laptop are going for the glowing apple on the lid.

Not as quickly at least, the cube was just an option below the tower, this time it's the only choice for someone who wants a Mac more powerful than a iMac.

I wonder how long it will take until:
  1. It combusts when someone blocks the heat stack with file folders/papers
  2. Its ruined when used as a garbage can
  3. Its ruined when confused for a new form of smokeless ash tray

Expandability is lacking. This may create a whole new market for upgrading the cylinder's predecessor.
