Question iPhone 5 mount

What's the best I5 mount for the 990R? RAM?

Show pictures of yours mounted on your bike.

I'd be interested in a waterproof one as I'm trying a new GPS map app: Scenic Map Central USA.

Anyone tried this app?

Thanks, Walt

I'd like to see a mount for when it has the waterproof lifeproof case on it.

I found one of those! Google ram iPhone 5 lifeproof. Should find it.

I use an iphone 5 with a lifeproof case and their "cycle mount" - it's ok and hasn't caused me any concern so far despite not being the most sturdy of mounts. The ball on the back is a ram-like ball but it's a smaller diameter so it's not compatible with anything that Ram makes. I've been thinking about modifying mine to accept the standard Ram mount so I can do away with the feeble compression ring style mount that it comes with and use my multitude of Ram parts. Apart from that, it's got a positive lock on top to keep the phone safe and locked in the mount and it allows the lifeproof access flap to be opened for charging while riding (though that compromises the water resistance).

Here's what I did with a 4S. The same can be done with a 5:

The case is a LifeProof, and the mount is a LifeProof bar mount. Both purchased off of eBay. I used this on the Great River Gravel Ride a few weeks ago with the Motion X GPS app. I did 250 miles there and 250 miles back using Google maps to guide me. I used Motion X GPS to follow the pre-planned tracks for the 270+ miles of gravel and dirt roads during the event. The trip back was in torrential rain. It all worked very, very well. The only complaint I have is that the LifeProof case adds a layer of glare to the screen that's a little tricky to deal with. I have a Zagg screen protector on the iPhone, and that tends to adhere to the inside of the LifeProof screen protector, which cuts down on the glare but doesn't solve the problem. The other issue is that you need to touch the screen every now and again to do something, such as zoom in to see if you are making the correct turn. That's hard to do without gloves. I found myself just taking off my gloves, which I hated doing on a ride that was at times a little sketchy. Still haven't solved that problem.

Motion X GPS rocks, by the way. It's the best solution I've ever seen anywhere. It will be that much better on the larger iPhone 5.

Also, I installed a USB adapter purchased off of eBay so that I can just plug up the iPhone charge cord directly to an appropriate power source and not have to worry about the phone's battery. The adapters are available from eBay for under $20.
