Talk about a pain in the a$$

About 5years ago the steering locked up on my 04 GSA
Had to get a bunch of manly men to lift the bike into the back of a truck,take it to Daytona BMW and almost 500 clams later,I got my bike back.They had to replace the locking mechanism ,the dealer said they could never find out why it locked up.So fast forward 5 years and stupid me mistakenly locked the front end again 😡😡low and behold the front end would not unlock again 😡😡😡😡.do you think The Beemer shop who worked on it before would work on it at N/C or am I just waiting my time contacting them?

After five years gone by I think you are back at square one.

I don't think they would fix it again at no charge.

It is not too difficult to remove upper clamp and find out why it continues to do this.

I agree with Lensgrinder, after 5 years you're pretty much on your own. Although I'm sure the dealer will gladly charge you another 500 buck to fix it!

There's gotta be a simple way to take it apart and find the problem. Do a search here, must be a thread somewhere that explains how!

I wouldn't pay anyone to fix a problem like that as I'd imagine most of what you're paying for is the time spent trouble shooting. Some people here surely have an answer for you, and maybe this time you can fix it right!

The only problem is that i cant get the ignition key put either.I'm probally gonna have to bite the bullet and get a whole new Ignition switch and Steering lock mechanism.At least this way i can lock the front end again.Even tho i dont know who would want to steal this old War Horse!!

Can't get the key in either? You mean turn or can't even insert the key?
Would it be correct to assume you have twisted the bars while trying to turn the key?

Can't get the key out of the ignition .I tried turning the key back and forth while trying to turn the handle bars and the key is now stuck with the running lights on ,which is about 6 o clock on the ignition switch

There is a 05 GS in my shop. Just went and looked and as I tought not too waterproof the lock mechanism. Can you move the key a little and dump lube in there, could be corroded. I should lube that one, all them tiny springs in the mechanism, may lock the key in there if they corrode.

Ooops...ran back to the shop sprayed a little Teflon lube in there, pushed it in with compressed air to spread it. Key action is much smoother.

I'll go look again, there may be a drain hole at the bottom to evacuate moisture. Maybe a way to lube the steering lock.

I don't know if this is useful info reddawg - but recently my steering lock wouldn't lock. Sounds like yours has stuck SHUT - mine was stuck OPEN.

Eventually I gave it a good dousing of WD40 from underneath (had to put my hand plus WD can under the triple tree to get access). Awkward space to work in. Applying WD from the top - and to the lock barrel itself, did nothing for me - I had to come at it from underneath

This freed up the mechanism.

Try some Fluid Film. Its works better than WD40. Pick some up at your local John Deer dealer. Stuff works wonders.

If you can't get the key out it's probably not fully locked. I'd douse it in juice and then actually try and 'lock' it more, then when the key comes loose you may be able to re-insert and unlock. Easy goes though, forcing it will just screw it up. The locking peg could be mis-aligned and grabbing were it goes in. You could try some bolt ease or penetrating oil on that peg too.

The LAST thing I would do would be trailer and $500+.......it would be a week of f'ing around before it came to that, even then I'd come up with some other remedy.
