I have a good half a week or more or so this july(5th thru 20) to get away from the family and have some alone time with my bike. Only question is where to go and what to see. Im in the far western burbs of Chicago and there just isn't much going on around here.....Wisconsin? Michigan? Kentucky? Missouri? got me....I have a National Park pass looking to ride 400 miles or so a day max...camping works as well
Lets hear some good ideas please!

How about heading northeast along the Canadian border to Maine, or even Nova Scotia? If you aren't set on using you NP pass, you could even head straight north to escape the summer heat.

One of my all-time favorite weekend rides was through Kentucky.

Jeff posted a route which visits all thirteen remaining covered bridges in the state of Kentucky: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405579

I did the ride in 2009, my ride report is here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468807

It's a great ride if you like rural areas, rolling farmland, and old bridges.

I even slept in a couple of the bridges.

And since you mentioned National Parks, Mammoth Cave National Park isn't very far from the route, Great Smoky Mountain National Park a little farther, but perhaps doable.

If I had 4-7 days of riding I would go to Missouri. Mark twain forest, Ozark riverway, in that general area. Lots of top notch roads and great scenery.
I only spent there 3 days and it was not enough for me.

I know it doesn't feel like a real trip because, well, it's Wisconisn and you may already be well familiar with this area but...

The Kickapoo river valley around Wildcat Mountain State Park has some of the most lovely riding you could find

anywhere. The larger area is commonly referred to as the Driftless Region. You could spend many days up there. Come t

Come to an intersection of two county roads and flip a coin. You're likely not going to be disappointed. You can download

these maps free. They're huge but there might be some way to isolate sections of interest and print them. If you have a

gps you're golden.

Looks like Im going to ride down to Mammoth Cave and then on to the Dragon. Anyone know of good motorcycle campgrounds on my route? Any other things to see?
