BMWMOA rally DS trails?

Thinking about going to the MOA rally in Salem and taking my DR350S with me.

I know nothing about the Salem area, is there much in the way of trail riding there?

Thanks

Gerry

Hello O'Hooligan, I can't answer your question, but someone here will.
Bend Or has good off road trails at China Hat, but I'm sure someone will get it closer for you.
Wanted to say hello and my Troubled machine is getting its suspension worked over.
Cheers friend.

Salem itself is in Willamette Valley, not a lot of Single Track close by. However, heading west into the Coast Mountains there is a lot of good trail riding. Closest would be Trask Mountain OHV area, which is pretty awesome. Just north of there is the Tillamook Forest that has a lot of great trail riding, but it's a ways from Salem (45min-1hr or so). Look up Browns Camp & Diamond Mill.

Going south and east there are a few other OHV areas, but not as epic as the ones in the Coast Range.

I may have to reconsider going to this rally, can't see myself sitting around the site for 4 days listening to geezers grumble about lubing splines Surprised at the lack of off road riding opportunities or is it a well kept locals only secret

nope,,no secret,,Salem itself is a ways away from access to good dirt, but I'd imagine they'd have some sort of GS/Dual Sport ride planned at the event.

Hi, this is Jeremy from AltRider. I wanted to let you know about an ADV ride were hosting the day before the rally in Salem starts. Weve got an awesome route planned in the Mount Jefferson area that includes Detroit Lake, Lake Olallie and many other cool sites. We just did the pre-ride this past weekend and Ive got some pictures attached below. Check out our website for more info on the ride and let me know if you have any other questions.

HA! Great shot of Pat! Kurt went ahead and was being mobbed by mosquitos waiting for us w/camera. Pat's on a righteous XR with SM wheels that he rode from Bend to meet up & help 'scout'.

Super fun route out of Idanha, saw lots of bear scat, A LOT up in the hills.

I'd never been in this place (Korner Post) in Detroit but it's great. Friendly moto theme inside too.

Single lane paved logging road that went uphill for miles.

Pat's front wheel -

This buddy of ours loaned his GS PD to Justin in exchange for some wrenching and new tires. Justin (sorry for the crappy shot, cause he did roast through this) had never ridden a BMW off road and we took him up here - . He and the bike did great, that thing eats rocks . . .

. . . hey - it has foot pegs you know?! (Check out the stone under the back tire)

This will probably dry up by next month don't ya think?

Maybe not.

It'll be a fun ride for sure!

I was doing everything I could not to get stuck in that hole!

Great route with beautiful scenery.
