I replaced a heavy duty zipper on a thick leather riding jacket 2 weeks ago at a place that does alterations in Macquarie Centre, North Ryde in Sydney and it cost me $80. First class job. The lady did complain though that she broke 5 needles sewing the zipper back as the leather was very thick and stiff. There are jacket places that do it for the same price as well. Hope this helps.

G/day Marc

The man you want is Michael at Walkalong, Camberwell.
http://www.walkalong.com.au/.

I have had him replace jackets, and tents zips, repair leathers, luggage etc.
Excellent service, and gives you a quote and date when your goods will be ready to pick up.

Have used his services for over 20 years.

Chris

Wouldn't almost any cobbler tackle it? Or a sail-maker, chandler or the folk that make caravan awnings and camper-trailers?

I've not used these guys but was directed to them for some repairs to camping equipment I needed done.

They used to be in Little Bourke Street, but look like they move to Point Cook, but it looks like you can drop stuff off at Bogong Equipment (in little bourke)

I second that mob, as I have had good feedback from trustworthy mates who have used them.

  • I have used this guy on my BMW jacket very happy with the result. (he rides) older jacket.
  • BMW in Southbank saw the zipper prior to me getting it fixed and mentioned I could leave it with them and they would do it. Might be worth a try if ya near a dealer. (not fit for purpose stuff) I couldnt as I was passing through.

Remote Repairs, better quality and consistency than Walkalong.

Only use YKK zips, and make sure it really is YKK and not a rip off. Very hard to find, even on the Internet, but it can be done. Easy enough to buy in quantity though! Don't need 500 zips?..... no thought not.
