Ijmuiden - Freiburg (correct spelling this time)

Me and the GF are heading to Freiburg to visit a friend. We're looking for some places to stay, preferably in a campsite, on the way there and back. I prefer smaller towns to big cities. we've got 8 or 9 days. Anyone got any nice places to stay between Ijmuiden and Freiburg? So far I'm thinking about Epernay but that's about all my ideas so far.

Cheers

Mike

The campsite we stay often is
Camping Alferweiher Sārl in Echternach, Luxembourg The owner is Dutch. It is motorcycle friendly and within walking distance of Echternach, 15 minutes walking to the center of town which has a very good Italian restaurant.
You can have breakfast on the camping, wifi is free.
From there you can ride to the Black Forest on small roads and the famous Schwartzwalder Hoch Strasse. That is about 400 km, so a one day trip. If you want the route (GPX) from the campsite to Freiburg, feel free to ask.

Not to Lods itself, but just down the road a few kms is the 'official' source of the Loue River. Impressive.

IIRC, the actual source is somewhere else. According to local history, one fine day a farmer was here and when he got close to the water, there was a familiar odor and the water was a bit cloudy. Turned out to be anisette, an aperitif. It was in the water after a distillery in Pontarlier caught fire and some of the magic liquid spilled into the Doubs River. From there it went underground, to surface here.

Why Epernay? There are better roads to Freiburg. Assuming you're going through Calais. Go into Belgium, head for Bastogne in the Ardennes. Then go south to Verdun. Pick up the D964 and follow it to Neufchateau (Wildman would approve of this leg ). From there, go east into the Voges and ride La Route des Cretes, from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines south. Freiburg is a chip shot from there. Just a suggestion.

I think we'll be heading from the ferry at Ijmuiden (hence the title) Will check out your suggestions though.

Anyway, even better. Head south into Belgium and zero in on Liege. A bit futher on is the north side of the Ardennes. Even better better, there's a camping on the west side of the A26 just north of Bastogne.

Further south between Revin and Bouillon, there is a gorgeous ride along the Semoy River. Enter France via Bouillon and go south to Sedan. Make a left onto D8043 for a short distance then turn right onto the D964 to Verdun. Easy peasy.

Outside of Ijmuiden

About 20 mins north of Ijmuiden is a nice campground in Castricum Aan Zee. Right in the dune / beach and some great on beach restaurants... (Denning)
