German couple on a RTW trip with two 20 years old Hondas arriving in Auckland soon...

G´day to all NZ bikers!

We are Bea and Helle, a young couple from Upper Bavaria in Germany and we are probably doing the adventure of our lifetime, a round the world trip with our two more than twenty years old Honda Transalps!

We started in our home town Burghausen at the 18th of June 2011, so we are “On the Road” now since more than 2 years now.
Since then we crossed 14 countries and covered over 60.000 kilometers on our trusted bikes.
We visited the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and from Vladivostok in the far east of Siberia we shipped our bikes to Thailand. From there we did a loop trough Cambodia, Laos and Thailand before we went down to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and finally East Timor from where we shipped to Australia.

At the moment we are still in Australia – yes, it´s a huge country and it took us over a year to travel around and we also worked a little bit to increase our travel funds again.

So far we really had a great time, met some unbelievable helpful and friendly people, rode our bikes trough amazing landscapes and had some real adventures!

On our blog www.timetoride.de and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Time-to-ride/115955945143396 you can find more information about us, our bikes, about our trip preparations and some travel reports about the countries we visited so far. We also posted lots of pictures and videos about our travel. So if you are interested, we would be very happy if you visit our blog and Facebook page!

But now the time has come to say goodbye Australia, hello New Zealand!

We haven´t been in NZ before but we heard a lot of great stories about the fantastic bike ride possibilities so we are really curious about it!

We have 3 month time to travel around and we are very interested in meeting local bikers, having good conversations, of course drinking the one or another beer and spending a great time whilst exploring NZ on our bikes!

So if some of you might have some helpful tips for us what to see, where to go, where to stay and so on... that would be great!

When we arrive in Auckland around Christmas we have to stay there for around one week because we have to wait for the bikes to arrive only at the 5th of January with a RoRo ship from Brisbane, so if someone can recommend a cheap place to stay, that would be great!

We hope to hear from you and looking forward to see some of you guys on the road!

Cheers from the bloody hot Outback of Australia
Bea & Helle

Hi Guys, check out the NZ FAQ for some interesting roads to travel on in NZ. With 3 months you'll have time for a good look around.

Keep us posted on here as to your travels & you'll no doubt be able to catch up with some locals for a ride/beer/BBQ. I'm near Rotorua so get in touch when you arrive in town. We already have a loose plan to show some other stray Germans around on the weekend of 18/19 Jan, you'd be welcome to join in.

Cheers
Clint

Hallo Landsleute

We are visiting NZ from 11.Jan. 2014 til 07. Feb 2014, first the North, then the South since 25. Jan 2014, riding DR 650

I´m checking this threads, maybe we can met with ClintNZ

Grüße aus Kösching

Hi guys!

Thanks to all the response and invitations and helpful advices! You are really great!

Our bikes will probably arrive in Auckland at the 3th of January. After we have them out of the port we´ll head to New Plymouth as Helle´s sister and her boyfriend are there, visiting family. We´ll stay with them for a couple of days before we start touring around.

We have no plans at all where to go and what to see yet. But as you know, no plan normally is a good plan!
But as we have nearly 3 month time, that should be enough to have a good look around!

We will let you know where we are and maybe we can meet up with you guys, have some and good rides!

@iny46/ClintNZ:Yes we´ve read your post as well. Should stay in contact and meet up somewhere on the road. Maybe we can manage to catch up with you guys while you are staying with ClintNZ and have a stray Germans meeting with some !

Cheers from rainy Brisbane where we just started to clean our bikes for the NZ quarantine. What a shitty job...

Bea & Helle

When will you guys be in Auckland? We might be able to meet up. We are just in the process of moving to Blenheim. We'll be down there from the 16th onwards. Feel free to pop in. If you are interested, I'll pm you the address.

Welkommen !!

There are some beers in the fridge for you in Timaru(south Island) if you make it this direction.
I cant promise Bavarian food, but Hanna from Berlin will try make something reasonably German-ish if you want :)
Will catch you on facebook at some stage :)

James and Hanna.

@Kokopelli:
Thanks for your offer! We´re in Auckland since three days, staying with a biker we got in contact with through other RTW bikers. Still waiting for our bikes which will arrive on Friday so fingers crossed we´ll get them out of the port on Friday, too! J But maybe we can catch up in Blenheim in a couple of weeks… :)

@ James and Hanna:
German food sounds very inviting! :) Thank you for your invitation. We´ll give you a yell when we are around!

Cheers & a happy new year to everyone!!!
