LA to DV to Tahoe (88) to Yosemite - Tips Please (Leaving Sat., 4/5)

My brother and I leaving Redondo Beach and heading to Panamint Springs Resort via Angeles Crest Hwy. Spending Sunday in DV (will hit up Beatty, Ryolite, Titus, Ubehebe Crater and RaceTrack. We'll end up at Furnance Creek on Sunday night. On Sunday we will go to Scotty's, Crankshaft Junction and on to Eureka Dunes and out to Big Pine for gas. Then on to Mono Lake to stay in a hotel. On Tuesday we will explore Mono until it warms up and head up to Tahoe via 395 to Minden and then down the 88 (past Kirkwood) and over the Sierras and camp somewhere on the west side of the mountains (maybe near Yosemite). Then on Wednesday we will do a bit of touring around Yosemite until we meet up with our family on Wednesday.

So, question; is there anything that you know of that we should stop and see between Death Valley and Tahoe and Yosemite?

Thanks in advance!

BTW: We will be on BMW R1200 GSs.

check out gold point, just north of death valley.

if weather permitting, bodie (north of mono lake) is a good place to visit.

That is a great tip. I checked out the page ( and it looks like a great place to trip around a take some memorable pics. Unfortunately, the website says that the main road is close. We will check into it on Tuesday morning and see if that is still true.

Regarding the snow, it's been really touch and go. We are basically threading the needle, as on Tuesday when we go over the Sierras it is forecasted to be the warmest in a month with Kirkwood at 64F.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed!
