Lambda Sensor Heater Failure

How common is a heater failure in the Lambda sensor? My bike is flashing error code 18, indicating the front cylinder lambda heater has failed.

I found a used sensor on ebay but, if they fail from time to time maybe I should just buy a new one?

FI error code

You may want to check the routing of the wire harness from the sensor to the connector. My dealer had assembled my 2012 990 with the rear sensor wire sandwiched between the frame and the crash bar clamp. This eventually caused an error code which was solved by rerouting the wire.

This is the front cylinder sensor, wiring is fine.

I had both sensors faulty after 35k kms.

Error code was heater grounded on both. I replaced them with used ones. I wonder if there are aftermarket replacements out there. I believe there are, but the difficulty is to match the electrical plug.
Cheers.

I found an aftermarket oxygen sensor for KTM's, it's NGK p/n 28025. It's available on ebay for $100.

howzabout $55?

Amazon has one listed for the 990 for $55 plus $5 shipping. I would check with Bosch's cross reference to confirm part numbers, just to be safe. My local auto parts shop will sell me Bosch O2 sensors for the same price, so I have just gone to them so far (BMW oilheads previously).

I believe the $55 would come without the plug. This is what makes them cheaper. The sensor itself seems to be quite similar.
Cheers.

Cheers.
