Thanks everybody for all the kind comments and thanks for following along, hopefully there will be much more to come.

I was stationed at Fort Ritchie in 1993-1995. Watched hang-gliders take off from High Rock.

Fort Ritchie is a prime example of the horrific political footballs Army posts became during the BRAC years under Clinton. It was a beautiful post and the soldiers all worked at nearby Site R. Now they majority are shipped daily from the Pentagon and Fort Detrick at a HUGE expense to the taxpayer. The same job I did as an MP now pays $70/hr to a DOD Law Enforcement Officer. I made $16K for a family of 4 in 1994.

Thanks for the ride along ........

iBiker, that is a pretty cool thing you all are doing on the 21st. I wish I didn't have to work, I'd love to be there with you to honor a hero. For anyone else that's interested here is the link.

Nicely done!
It's up to us to remember.

Cool seeing pix of you and Campcook there, on Cadillac Mtn, Bar Harbor waterfront, Bass Harbor lighthouse and the Penobscot Bridge, after we just saw them. Showed my wife your pix, she really enjoyed them.
Thanks for the effort to put up the RR, great read.
Glad you guys had a nice trip.
Thank you sir.

This is the second ride report I've done and I really enjoy coming home and looking over the notes I took along the way. It's almost like taking the trip a second time without waking up in the morning with a flat air mattress.

During our trip to Maine the Strom bottomed out like crazy. While going over the bike once we got back I discovered the rear tire had rubbed a hole through the inner fender.

I met Laconic at Goosecreek's ride-to-shoot, he rides two-up with his wife Flutesong on the same bike and never bottoms out. It dawned on me his bike was stock height while mine had been lowered by the PO. When we got home I put the bike back to stock, took out some of the pre-load, and we took off for West Virginia.

We originally planned on riding the BRP down to Cherokee NC but there was a lot of rain coming from the south and we would be riding right into it. If you've never done it, rain and fog on the Parkway makes for a very long day so we decided last minute to head west without much of a plan.

We left home Tuesday afternoon and headed for Ray's Campground in Hico, WV.

Stopped at Devil's Backbone along 39. Been by it a thousand times but never stopped, We stopped this time, I had to pee.

If you ever camp around New River Gorge in West Virginia Ray's campground is hard to beat. Nine bucks a person to camp, cabins for $34. If you tent camp there be sure to put your rain fly on regardless how pretty the stars are in the clear night sky or you might be putting it on in your underwear at 3am in the rain. I know a guy it happened to.

The next morning we wake to fog and off and on drizzle. After finishing our oatmeal and coffee we pack the wet tent and sleeping bags and I discover my phone is wet and not working.

The plan is to explore a little of the New River Gorge and then keep going west hopefully running out of the rain and landing somewhere in Kentucky.

With all the rain we've had this summer it's not hard to find a waterfall.

or flowing mountain streams.

I think I'll stick to motorcycles.

When I stopped to snap this pic I found out how slick motorcycle boots are on wet metal grating. Guess I should have heeded the absolutely no stopping on bridge sign.

We stopped to take a look around Thurmond.

I think this Hobo had it right.
