Skibum Soiree Newfoundland 2010

I was chatting with another rider about the Soiree and wanted to bring up my ride report from RideTheRock.com but it seems to have vanished along with my profile. They must have had to trash the site and start over or something. So here goes a recap as far as I can remember, well it will be mostly just pictures, but you can get the story by looking.
I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, so it was a relatively quick 800 km or so from home through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to the ferry in North Sidney, Cape Breton

Here's my trusty '08 XR650L

Arriving in Argentia

And we're off... on our way to Skibum's place.

This next part on the trailway was fun!

Finally made it. I remember a bit of a wet ride, arriving after dark, rather cold and wet but in good spirits. Speaking of spirits, there were a lot so we had fun and I didn't take any party pics.

I went for a little ride to see Saint Johns and check out an internet café. Had to go check out the sights too.

Then it was back to Skibum's place for more fun while we waited for the rest of the riders to show up.

Watching. I recognize some of those sights...

I remember they had to delete ride the rock and start over again a few years ago because of some technical problems.

Bit of a group ride the next day.

Such a lovely place to change a flat!

And back to the Soiree.

Our hosts Mike & Sue. Mike's got a wicked cool shed - more on that later.

Yeah that was a doozie, but Dancingboy was a champ about it.

EDIT: Forgot about this part - spent some time farting around on the beach at Skibum's place (more selfies):

We started out yet another beautiful day on this beautiful place. Used to be the Dominion of Newfoundland I think, before it joined Canada in 1949. Well some Europeans showed up in the 14th and 15th centuries, but I don't know anything about where they were. Before them though, Vikings settled here at L'Anse Aux Meadows around 1000 AD - a place I am determined to visit on my next (4th) trip to the Rock.

Da Murph (I think), best motorcycle tour guide in Newfoundland - he's spent a lifetime exploring all the backroads and out of the way spots on the Rock and still says he hasn't seen it all. He's a good one for NL history, he entertained us at breakfast with history, geography, points of interest, and cool roads we need to check out.

This is the only DR Big I've ever seen in person.

This turned out to be a super great ride. So glad I made this one.

Sorry about all the selfies. I was havin' a time.

This place is so cool.

Oh what difference a year makes, looks like some nice improvements where made. Was a grand time draining most of the keg with you back in o9 Greg. Glad you got the big xr up on the rock. Hoping one day I'll be back again, a lot of great memories and new friends made up there on the big island. Thanks for sharing all this!
Good times in the shed at Mike's place

things got kinda fuzzy

I still find it funny I got the picture of your bike by total accident

RIP brother Steve

Awesome, thanks for posting this pics.....I was at the same soiree. The Ridetherock.com site crashed and most all of these pics/ride reports were lost. A similar event, much smaller is planned for the beginning of July next summer.
