2up camping adventure through the Alps on a Transalp (Belgium, Italy and France)

Hi Guys!

This summer we made our first true bike trip. I got lots of information from this site and wanted to give something back, inspiration and experiences.
I’ll start with inspiration:

The evil plan below, we started in Belgium (50km west from Brussels) to get an overnight train from the Netherlands to Italy. We biked and camped our way back over 13 days and 2500km, more or less following “La route des grandes Alpes” from south to north through Italy, France, Monaco, and Switzerland. Enjoy!

Ready for take-off 12 July 2013

Boarding the train in the Netherlands, mind the head!!!

Getting of in Italy, temperature was going well over 38°C, a massive difference, when we left the Netherlans it was just 18°C.

The first camp stop was planned in the beautiful town of Rapallo. 3 days of sun and beach.

And with the French boarder came the Mountains

Fist camp stop in Fance, the lovely town of Sospel

As long as these arrows show up, the mountains will show up!

Col de la Bonette, highest paved road in Europe 2802m

Like it says on the side covers, the birth place of the bike…

at the town of Barcelonnette

And for the money shot thanks to http://www.griffephotos.com/

We were 2 days behind “Le tour de Fance” at Alpe d'Huez and the far more beautiful Col de Sarenne

For the two of us and the bike, it was around 450€. Quite expensive, but it gave us a relaxed start of our vacation. No worry’s, in one night we were in sunny Italy, saved us 3-4 days.

Check out http://www.autoslaaptrein.nl/
2 English bikers I met on the train had an arraignment that included ferry Dover - Calais en train Netherlands - Italy.

Thanks for the info !
I was in that area around 2 weeks after you. The weather was so good in that part of Europe this year. It was around 31 celsius in August.
I will check out that link to the train...thanks again !

Hi ON8JU,

Grear RR, good idea to pop the bike on the train then ride back. That "money shot" is one for a frame; take it a passer by took it of you both?

Looking forward to more

Cheers
