Day 5 Tofino

Rode from Port Alberni to Tofino. Only 'misted' all the way there and back ... actually we probably got the most rain yet. Got to Tofino, tried to take some photos, went for coffee and snacks and then started the ride back. Finally got a small break in the weather for some photos at Long Beach.

Dude in the van was stoked about our dual sports, I was assessing whether or not our stuff would be there when we got back

Made it to Comox for the day.

Thoughts for the day, Tofino road is very good, but yesterdays ride thru Cowichan, Port Renfrew, Sooke was a better riders road.

The Yamaha was getting ever so slightly better gas mileage than the stock jetted KLR, but now the KLR is getting ever so slightly better mileage at sea level.

The Super Tenere stock seat is incredibly comfortable in long distances as well as the ergonomic setup of the bike for my stature. For sure more comfortable than my beloved R1200RT with BMW comfort seat.

I patched a leak on one of the bolts on the right pannier, but it is still leaking at the seal of the lid. Left side and top box is totally dry. EDIT** Field adjusted the pannier handles/locks, they can be adjusted to either tighter or looser than factory settings.**

My Daytona boots have kept my feet totally dry

Revit H2O gloves aren't fully waterproof.

I wonder how much better high end textile gear like Klim would do in the weather we have so far encountered. I don't care for rainsuits that don't breathe.

Day 6

Just arrived in Port Hardy from Comox. 4 hour ride today. This time we encountered FOG with our usual rain...LOL

Very near the water. Have to wake up at 430am for the ferry ride.
We did manage to get some photos earlier. Will post later.

Our hotel in Comox. Slightly better than the dive in Port Alberni.

We made it nice and humid with all the drying of our gear.

Nice shots - I was in Tofino yesterday - but on a surf trip instead. Then had the 20 hour drive back to Edmonton in my Sprinter Van.

One thing about the rain, your bikes always look clean...

Wow, that looks delicious, I so enjoy good Sushi. Which restaurant was this at?

Big jump to Port Hardy, did you stop in Campbell River at all, that is a great town. I have also enjoyed Port McNeil, you can take the ferry over to Malcolm Island and explore Sointula as well, which is quaint and enjoyable. You are probably on a schedule and have to keep moving, maybe next time, ..that's what I always say!

Cheers.

Yep, went thru Courtenay, Comox, and Campbell River. That city seems very nice and is one of my favorite smaller places so far.

Port Hardy seems like it was once a great area, but looks to economically be hit by hard times from what the locals say a shut down of the mine and logging that has moved down the island. Lots of empty buildings and for sale signs downtown. I'm told that the mall is the same.

day 7

Currently at Prince Rupert. I will say that the Northern Passage trip here was phenomenal in various aspects.
First, great weather finally!!!!
Ferry was not full, so very personalized.
Aurora lounge is a must option for only $35 more.
Met up with a bunch of great people at the Aurora lounge
Incredible scenery, with lots of wildlife sightings of orcas, whales, dolphins, Bald eagles.
Very first class affair.
