Very much looking forward to this!
I will be looking closely at what the Monterra can do (seems massive) but more importantly what function if any has been lost verses Garmin's latest handheld GPS offerings.
I also believe hearing what issues the hardware/firmware updates have address during development will be somewhat telling.

Should be any day now.

Hey Bruce,

Keep in mind, I am not permitted to discuss Garmin Development related activities as they pertain to this product. I can, and will, address what the device does at release and potentially some things I'd like to see added/enhanced. I think you will get what you're looking for but your not shy, so after you read the review if you have additional questions you can find me here since I expect the snow will have come by then and I'll be spending more time at the desk -- until there's enough snow to xc-ski.

I had a hunch that would be the case but I'm sure you have seen some of the posted early mini reviews and will find a clever way to talk about the concerns they raise without funning afoul of the agreement.

NW skiers wishing for snow before Thanksgiving, then hoping for it to be gone by April! One summer, about 15 years ago, I was able to roll over snow on every trail ride that year including a small patch on the Boundary Trail (GPNF) in late Spent.

I kind of figured someone around here might be a beta tester. I'll be keeping an eye on your page. Hope this unit turns out to be a good touring companion.

I hope that those who have/are beta testers (aren't we all? ) will post links to their reviews once they can publish them.

Not everyone who's a Beta tester will be publishing reviews. It's not a requirement.

Understood. All I am saying is that I don't want to miss reading any of those informed reviews, so I hope anyone who does write one thinks to post a link here. In spite of how much time I spend online, I can't really spend the time randomly checking various inmate home pages.

I've been watching news about the Monterra since it's announcement. Reading about the newly released Nexus 5 ($349.00) with the latest Android OS and no restrictions on apps makes me wonder again about the viability of Garmin's offering - especially at their price point.

I know the Nexus isn't waterproof, but it seems I will come out ahead of the game in both cost and performance by adding an Otterbox or similar waterproof case to the mix.

Looking forward to the reviews to better help me evaluate the options.
