MotoBrain PDU-PREORDER

What is the MotoBrain PDU you ask what is this "PDU" new-fangled thingy? I am glad that you asked! Can I buy one? Unfortunately not right now.... however you can contribute to the Kickstarter Campaign (Effectively a LIMITED PREORDER) and you will get one in April off of the first run!

Brought to you by the same guy(s) that made www.Dualsportmaps.com (GPS for your Android Phone). Joshua has proven that he can deliver on complex projects and is motivated to make it happen.

The PDU (power distribution unit) is a small form factor, next generation power distribution unit. You can install the PDU in your car, truck, motorcycle, RV, boat, or pretty much anything that runs on a 12V system. The PDU will supply power to any sort of accessory, like aux lights, heated clothing, whatever you want. What’s really awesome is that the PDU will pair to your mobile phone or tablet via Bluetooth 4, so you can control everything from your touchscreen. The PDU also supports switch installations so you also have the option of controlling circuits via a dash mounted toggle or button switch.

Capabilities:

Eight 15A circuits with PWM
Eight programmable current circuit breakers
Real-time telemetry via Bluetooth 4
System voltage
Total current
Channel current
Channel PWM
Channel fuse level and status
Programmable default output behavior
Turn on outputs based on key, ignition, or low voltage
Turn off outputs based on key, ignition, low voltage, or high voltage
Modulate output duty cycle to create pulsing effects
Over current circuit priority
Two constant current drivers
4 programmable signal inputs
Reacts to 12V and GND signals
Turn outputs on or off
Delayed output turn on after signal
Toggle outputs
Adjust output PWM

Power distribution - The PDU has 8 independent positive voltage circuits. Each circuit is rated at 15A @ 12V continuous current and the total nominal load the PDU can source is 100A @ 12V. To install, you only need to connect the PDU to your battery (both terminals), connect a positive lead to each of your accessories, and then make sure everything has a good connection to ground. In this way, only one wire for each accessory needs to come back to the PDU. This helps keep the the installation tidy. We suggest you install ground bars to terminate your accessory grounds in groups rather than bringing each individually back to the negative terminal on the battery. Again, to keep the install tidy.

I WANT one... Can I buy one and have it delivered before my next big ride this weekend? Unfortunately no.... however you can contribute to the Kickstarter Campaign and you will get one in April off of the first run!

More info from the developer.....

The prototype development and testing has gone very well. There have been many iterations, refinements, chasing down bugs, and features added along the way. We’d love to put the PDU into production and get it out in to the hands of our backers so you can start doing really awesome things with your PDU.

Our Kickstarter campaign went live on September 10th and we’re really excited to be at this point in the process. During this time (and any time!) we’d love to hear from you. Tell us how you’ll use your PDU! We are also available for questions or help with Kickstarter issues.

During the Kickstarter campaign we will continue the development of the PDU, testing and app revision. We’ll be sure to keep you informed on our progress.

After the Kickstarter campaign closes out, our work will continue. By this point we will have lots of test data under our belt and we’ll draw closer to validating our final design. Test results and feedback from you will influence the final design specification. This portion of the project will likely last 60 days.

After the final specification is made, we kick things in to high gear. We’ll start procurement of all the required components for the PDU. Things like printed circuit boards, processors, bluetooth radios, and mil-spec wiring; we’ll pick up all the gear that makes the Motobrain so awesome. Wiring harness construction will begin and we will gear up for assembly. We are planning on this phase to require 30 days.

With a validated final design and all the parts to start building, we will make a test batch of PDUs. We will assemble a small number units all the way from start to finish. Then we’ll test them, abuse them, and show you everything along the way. Once we are satisfied with the test production, we will scale up to the real deal. The test batch production and testing is expected to take 30 days.

Assembly will be the bulk of the work and we are really excited about getting there. We will assemble the circuit boards with a US assembler, and then do the final assembly ourselves. At final assembly, we will do a comprehensive functional test of each and every device. After having passed QC, the PDUs will be sent off to Ohio for encapsulation. Once we get them back, we will do a final functional test and prepare the PDUs for shipment.

There are many different tasks that will go on in this phase of the project and we have designed each assembly for efficient and rugged construction. The assembly phase of the project will last 60 days and will yield what we’ve all been waiting for, your very own Motobrain PDU.

After assembly, each PDU will be packed up and shipped to you as fast as we possibly can.

Go do it... back this project and help MotoBrain's crew deliver on a production run of 200 units! With a Kickstarter campaign it will not get funded unless the minimum requested amount is met. If you want THE BEST micro 8 circuit fuse panel available (ok, not until April), you can contribute $260 to the project. Tell your friends, riding buddies and your mother-in-law!

The only interest I have with this project is I see this product as a game changer for adding accessories to all motorcycles. If you want to take it to the next level, completely replace the OEM fuse system, which I plan on doing with my KTM 950 ADV.

Still taking pre-orders! Tell your riding buddies, wheeling friends, knee boarding boat friends... put it on your hauler or trailer to power all the systems. Almost there, need more contributors to make it happen.
