Missing VT counties in NE Topo Pt1

Downloaded the 3-part NE topo maps from GPSfiledepot to find all roads/trails in Caledonia & Addison Counties of Vermont are missing. I am opening the map in Basecamp as I am thinking of buying a GPS w/o maps & this would be a key one to have, especially as I live on the edge of Caledonia County.

Found mention of this exact issue on the GPSFD forums from several years back but there didn't seem to be any fix suggested there.

Anyone else had this problem/found a solution?

Thanks, TD

I downloaded the New England Topos from Open Street Map www.openstreetmap.nl and Caledonia is certainly there. It's missing some other odd features -- certain ponds, for example, but overall, it is a fairly good map.

Thanks Tim, I was going to ask what you use for all your local mapping since you seem to have lots of good routes. Thanks for the tip I'll check out that one.

At first I thought I had an incomplete install, re-did it, same issues. That's when I found the old posts with the same problem. All the roads (interstates included) just stop at the county line.

Ted, if you send me a stick or SD, I have the open source maps for New England and Eastern Canada that include Caledonia and Addison with the roads. I can mail 'em to you.

I have a fairly recent version of the garmin northeast topo that I bought on DVD. I wonder if someone can tell me a specific place, e.g., a street in a town, to look for that should have something but does not on the downloaded version, and I will check and maybe post a screen shot of what is on the DVD, if you would like me to.

Thanks Tim, that would be great. Actually, I'm going to Big E's this week to drop off the Vespa so maybe I'll drop off a flash drive if that's OK.
I did look at the other GPS site but I don't know enough Nederlander to find the NE maps.

Thanks for offering.

The maps I had the issue with were an open source NE Topo from GPSFile Depot. They seem to be complete except for those 2 counties. The contours/streams/lakes are there, just no roads.

The Garmin ones you have are probably fine. But if you want to look, check the Wheelock/Sheffield/Sutton, VT area.

Google translate is a great help. There used to be an English button on the site, but since the Dutch Spring, it appears to have disappeared. If you drop off some storage media with Evs, I can give you some open-source maps. Or you could just putt up the road the extra three miles and I'll give them to you direct.

Cheers.

Oh! I thought you were having the issue with Garmin maps. No matter, though, here is Sutton at .7 mile zoom on the Garmin NE 24k.

the Northeast Topo has "issues" in several places. It is also missing info by county in Southeast Pa area.
There is a "New England Topo" which covers Me, NH and Vt. It has 50 ft contour lines. I made it transparent and use it with City Navigator to see streams, small ponds and some contours.

Got your stick, Ted. Shame you didn't wait, I was just off at the auto parts store in Barton. I have a 1.2 GB OSM routable file that covers most of the NE and Canada to the Ontario border. as well as the New England topo loaded. PM me your address, and I'll drop it in the mail.
