you never know who'll you meet at the arctic circle

i was on my way south from the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Hwy. I pulled over at Finger Mtn to snap a few shots of the local environs.

On my way back to the bike, I hear a weed-eater. It's getting louder. I look up the road and see that the source of the noise is a two stroke Jawa 350 being ridden by Vladimir Yarets Alexeevich .

I didn't expect to meet a 62 year old deaf mute from Minsk. Seems he left home about three years ago and has been cruising the globe ever since. He communicates with laminated cards and lots of body language.

Here's link to part of his story:

That's awesome

I think Jawa, or maybe Coleman at least is missing a great sponsorship opportunity

A very interesting traveler!
He was in Austin, TX last December at
my dealer's open house. Here is a photo of him
and one of the cards he shows people.

Yep, Nachtflug should get a job!

Vladimir and his travels certainly put things in perspective, amazing! Especially his mount.

WOW!

This guy had stopped into our shop, MAX BMW in NH not to long ago. We all did not know what to make of him. Offered to help but he just came in and looked at all the bikes and left...

I saw that bike sitting outside of Fairbanks Harley Davidson a couple of weeks ago! I didn't meet the rider though, wish I would have, sounds like a neat guy. I was shipping back some parts off of my broken down KLR. I didn't make the Artic Circle, bike gave out about 60 miles away.

I give that guy credit. I wonder how he diagnoses problems if he cannot hear the engine.

Don't be an impulse buyer... afterall you have time..

Holy Jeebus. Was he deaf when he started out? I bet that fucking two-stroke one-lunger he's riding didn't help.

Man, what a great story. I especially like ones that start with "Soooo, I'm on my way south from the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Hwy", like you're headed out to the Qwikee Mart for a half-gallon of milk. Awesome!
