Pike's Peak Results - Electric or Rider?

So Carlin Dunne won the overall motorcycle effort this year at Pike's Peak on an electric bike from Lightning Motorcycles. They'll be hard to beat going forward.

However....

Last year (2012) Carlin set the motorcycle course record with a time of 9:52.819 on a 1200s Multistrada, only 6 seconds off the all time course record of 9:46 (also set in 2012 with a car) (i think they broke the car record this year, but it isn't official yet.)

His time on the Lightning this year was 10:00.694.

So was it the bike or the rider? And which one really is quicker?

Bruno Langolis has ridden an MS 1200s both of the last two years. In 2012 he ran a 11:05.342 for 3rd place in class. This year he ran a 10:21.

Bruno was significantly quicker this year. How fast would Carlin have been on a Multi?

The course is also fully paved now, starting with the 2012 race.

Mike

i don't really have an educated (sufficiently) opinion on rider vs machine in this case but it is fascinating to me watching the progression of electrically powered machines into the mainstream...

Lightening should buy and prep a Multi and have Dunne ride it back to back with their bike... unless they are worried about the outcome...

It's hard to beat the feel/sound of a Duc twin but i'm enthusiastically looking forward to my first electric bike
