Tiger Prowls Lake Powell

Howdy All,
After the TIGER vs MOAB report... i hinted at another ride at the suggestion of my good wife...aka...ADVer "I'llgiveitago" or for the purposes of this report..."The Boss". The Boss had wanted to head south into NM towards warmer temps, however the weather had other ideas and I figured phark the risk of snow/ice, phark Red Mountain or Lizard Head Pass... i guess we'll head west....ish...to Utah....for a change? So it was....at 10am the thermomagingy said it was 18F(-7C for the rest of the world that understands common sense..oppss i mean the metric system ). Call me a pussy if you like but i dont ride untill it is at least freezing. Come 11.30am we reached the soaring temp of 32F (0C) so....Me...The Boss and The Old Girl (06 Tiger)...loaded up and headed west....ish...into the snow...

I didn't take many photos of the ride from here on. My unplanned intention was to ride to Halls Crossing, UT. Again because of my Australian Manliness affliction, i was unable to use google maps and pealed out my paper option and just pointed my finger at Hall Crossing UT. All i can say about this section of the ride is it was pharking freezing. I had some crazy inclinations that Monticello UT would be a good spot to grab supplies. Monticello UT IS NOT a good place to get supplies. Freezing winds off Mt Henry and a local population of maybe 100 led to the Old Girl sprouting the "6" P's and The Boss being disgruntled about a Subway/Conoco Lunch combo. Dont get me wrong, The Boss and The Old Girl are used to my repetitive failures when it comes to the 6 P's (for noobs...Planning & Preperation Prevent Piss Poor Performance). So for the purposes of this report we shall ignore the towns of Monticello and Blanding. We arrived and set up camp at Halls Crossing....

Dinner......

Fire....

Tomorrow we cross into " The Lake " The guy at the shop told us not to be late. The ferry only crosser twice a day in the off season!!!

We woke in the morning..after a reasonable night of camping in sub zero temps to head out on the ferry. When the dude with the long hair tells you not to be late.....he means it. Underplanning my departure.... we pulled into the ferry loading area with my retro seventies friend glaring at his watch and giving me the hairy eye! I was still 5 mins early...WTF? Anywho...t

he ferry...

Sorry this one wasn't so interesting....but it is hard to be cool all the time? The Burr Trail is next ......

The Burr Trail....due to my Australian Manliness I had no idea how out of sync with the seasonal businesses i was....so when we stopped at the servo (gas station) for some fuel, food and AA batteries for the camera...all was good ...excpet for the AA's. Hence a 20 mile detour for the most expensive batteries in history...we started the Burr Trail....

We took a track of the side (explore the unkown I say)

The "Daring" Boss....

Prickly Pear Cactii....turns margaritas pink apparently.....

More Burr Trail to come....(i.e. I have a chicken in the oven that needs loven!!!)

The Boss is specifically talking about the chook I have roasting in the oven that is filling our house with that "roast chicky aroma"...

Anywho...on with the ride.......

Another wash or slide... i think.....( so far the Old Girl has been very placid..I'm wondering how long this can go on!)

Still enjoying the Burr Trail.... Not a Jeep Trail by any means,,, but not slab....and plenty of views;....

Some pharked up colours...

The final switchbacks on the Burr Trail....

For those interested...the gaff on the Burr Trail.....

The Old Girl was stoked to see blacktop from here on...Both .."The Boss" and I were not so happy..having become more than comfortable with gravel....more view from the black stuff...

'

We finally arrived at Bouler..UT ( Not CO) ... The Old Girl and The Boss were champing at the bit for the trough.......

I was happy with this.......

Escalante UT and the Smokey Mtn Rd to Come......

Cool RR. I've been in that area before, and it's one of the great riding areas in the US. It makes me want to go back...

After enjoying a great lunch at Boulder...we headed on to Escalante. Our "plan" is to find a camp their and do the Smokey Mountain Rd tomorrow. The weather was doing it's best to piss me off, with wind, wind and more 50mph wind.
Some views along the way...

We got to the thriving metropolis of Escalante mid afternoon. Did i mention the wind?? We checked out the two camp grounds but decided we were looking for something with a little more protection from the wind. So....breaking my Australian Manliness vows...I wheeled into the Escalante Visitor centre....quite an impressive centre considering the Shit Hole that Escalante is. The nice information lady directed me to a trail head in the hills suggesting it might offer some protection....

The Boss was excited at the prospect of camping in Hell...however the Old Girl and I shared a less than enthusiastic opinion of the prospect......
The camp site to come....
