Big Bike Big Bear Ride....August 10th

Looking to make a big loop from South OC to Big Bear and back on Saturday the 10th. I'll be leaving Irvine at 6am and jamming out the 91 to the 215. Then up into the mountains. Traversing all the way to Fawnskin for lunch. Then finishing the loop back to OC.

I'll be on a 990 and some minimal FWY slab is necessary. Mostly dirt if I can help it. No 1w17 type trails. Just a mellow loop. Mostly two track and fire road.

Anyone interested just let me know.

Just pick a time and place to meet

Where do you plan to head up the mountain?

OK....here is the route I am thinking. This is completely open to suggestion. I picked the main routes because I am not sure what is open or not. This will be a recon trip for me. The route goes counter clockwise.

I count about 225 miles with no options from Green River. There are plenty of bail out points.

Suggestions?

I suggest 6:30am on Saturday the 10th. Meet at Starbucks off Green River and 91 FWY.

Looks good
However, Google can be a bit optimistic about the existence of some roads.
No problem, modifications can easily be made on the fly.

For those in the IE...
Mill Creek Ranger Station is at corner of Hwy38 and Bryant St, just before heading up the mtn.
Google says approx 1hr from the Green River starting point.
I will be at the Mill Creek station ~8am (assuming OC'ers roll from GR ~7am).

Hi All,

Let us know how it went. Interested in the condition of the roads once you left the pavement for a ride with wifey who is not enthusiastic about survival exercises but is fine with dirt and gravel.

Thanks

Home just a few ago. Just shy of 200 miles for the day
flynride was a pleasure to ride with. Good pace
Scored a rear flat just as I hit pavement at Lytle Creek on the way home
No worries. Enjoyed an ice cold cerveza from a frindly local while changing the tube
I'l get some pics up later
