With a few days off of work I had wanted to go the Grand Canyon with wife and kiddo. She was tired of all the driving since we had just come back from Vegas. As for me, I can't sit still I checked the weather (something I need to do more, as we will find out in a later installment) and a cold front was moving in, all the higher elevations were going to see temps in the 20s and snow. I decided on Joshua Tree, it was low enough and desert enough that the temps were only going down to 40s and 70s during the day.

Out of Oxnard I flew on a Monday morning Wasn't going to beat the morning rush so I just joined them in a harmonious lane sharing festival

Blasted all the way to Banning before stopping for a grease pill breakfast, then it was 243 to Palms to Pines Highway and into Palm Desert. A little side trip that was well worth it. Nice and cool up there

Different camera angle, good promo for Crocs (manliest shoes around)

I'll warn you now, this report will be filled with flower bombs. There were an over abundance of wild flowers blooming and I got all hippy like on em. Didn't shower for three days, ate vegetarian, wrote some poems and took mucho pictures of flowers

So, let's get on with it...

Ocotillo at Cottonwood visitor center with large bird overhead

Getting down into the heart of the beast

White Tank Camp

First possible campsite. Sign at visitor center said everything was full, but with Coachella winding down there were lots of campsites open

Though I usually go wild and get out into the backcountry for free camping, I thought I would "treat" myself to a picnic table and fire ring with pit toilets.

Ended up going down the road a bit more to Jumbo Rocks Camp

Camped next to a french Canadian couple in their 70s, they had no problem sporting speedos and bikinis with flip flops around camp. Their skin resembled a catcher's mitt, but I admired them for non-bashful ways

Prickley Pears were blooming

Long shadows came as the sun neared her death, tired from a day in the wind and heat I had a hard time staying awake for the display

There were impromptu performance in the campground, leftovers from Coachella

Landscape was ablaze with yellows, whites, purples

Geology Road was fun and not real challenging on the bigger bike, but I think the proper tires helped a lot. I talked with a guy back at camp later this day with a GS and Tourances, he was telling how knarly Geology road was and how we got stuck twice

From Geology I went to Berdoo Canyon, lots of soft sand and ruts before the slot canyon, it was a bit more than I had wanted to get into solo, but I kept the hammer lite and was extra super careful to not crash
