Got set up under the candle lights around 11pm, took all of 10 minutes to string the hammock, get out of riding gear, and get washed up. A swinging hanging bed has it’s definite advantages…slept like a log

Next morning, I awoke right around dawn, lazed in the hammock for a bit as I took in my surroundings

A quick camp coffee, some granola with berries from Mountain House, into the town of Kernville for gas and check in.

Noticed a couple guys running from this Smoker BBQ trailer at the gas station across the way. It was sitting right next to a propane tank too…I called the FD and relayed the situation as I saw it. No flames, just a whole lotta smoke…yes, I know it’s a Smoker BBQ, but this was unusually high concentration and the employees running from it tipped me off that something was amiss.

Civic duty done I headed to Sherman Pass

Up to the top of Sherman Pass Road, love the changes in terrain as we climbing higher and higher, temps are perfect at altitude

Stop at the view point, chatted it up with guys who just rode up and those about to ride down

Another shout to the east coast peeps of TAG

Made it! Wanted to get out here for quite sometime, don't know what the hell took me so long...I'll be back soon

The flag covering my plate is part of the GS Venture Challenge that my local BMW dealer put together. This trip made me one of, if not the, first finisher of the challenge. I guess I get a cool member's only jacket out of it?! Link for interested parties...LINK

Some beautiful meadows along the sides of the road

After a quick visit to Kennedy Meadows it was to Black Rock Station and onto the trail head...I will come back here with the family for a hike and camp Chatting up a girl around the corrals she said their were hot springs within two miles of the TH Wasn't going to hike it in the Tech 3 boots, but I will be back

Real nice job building these...all these horses belonged to the same girl who talked to me about the trail

Had a nice conversation with a guy and gal on a WR250 in the Black Rock lot. He asked if I was riding the trails on the F800...nope..fully loaded and by myself I didn't feel it the best idea...See? I am becoming an adult Next time, with an audiance I will ride some of the easy stuff...or better yet, trailer my 350 up here and ride all of it ...yeah I like that better...

He said I could definitely ride the Monache Jeep Road and gave me directions to it..apparently I passed it earlier, but someone had taken target practice on the sign and it was about blown away.

Rated Easy...let's see how it goes

Not bad, little loose and whooped out, but totally doable on the big bike

When it opened up, I was super stoked

Monache Meadow...this is the type of riding this GS was made for..

I was having a blast running around the different roads

River crossin at the end....didn't know the depth of the SouthFork of Kern here, so I went nice and slow...wish I would've wicked it for a nice splash

Deep enough to cool down in later

Not many folks to contend with, more cows than anything else

Two roads diverged in a wood,(or meadow) and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference (dead ended at a Rancher's locked gate)

After running around meadow for awhile I decided I would stay...feeling a little weary from all the miles pounded the day prior and today..I wanted to rest...so around 3pm I stopped to set camp

First thing out of the panniers was the ENO hammock

Changed out and got a little swing time..

Those puffy dark clouds were making another appearance as I swung in the hammock...I figured I woud take a nap, if I woke up by getting wet I would pack up and haul out of there...I came down some pretty steep terrain to get here...not knowing how it would hold with the rain was on my mind

Well the rain never came and I slept for about 30 minutes...

The dark clouds turned to happy little white clouds during my slumber

The only thing that needed some improvements with this campsite were the flies...they were relentless...the only escape was to keep moving, smoke didn't bother them, bug spray was Bianca and swatting at them just got em excited...so, I kept moving, pacing like a crazed person the whole time in camp

Road next to camp

View from camp

Different point of view, you can see my tent set up on the right

One of the nicer places I have rested my head

Sunset brought a welcome relief from the winged demons

I drifted off to sleep under a star filled night, grateful
