Alps trip. July 2013 . Solo noob needs suggestions :)

Hello. My name is rob. I have ridden my yamaha fz6 from England and now find myself in vienna. Having spent the last 10 days city hopping and getting drunk in hostels I now think its time for some mountains. Would like to spend a few day or maybe a week exploring the alps. I have camping gear but dont mind hotels if they are cheap. I am "planning" on leaving tomorrow. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

When I was in the Alps last summer I gave up on my planned route after too many headaches and wrong turns

When I decided to just go wherever, it was way better.

I didn't have GPS

Thats what I ended up doing . Chased the locals and thier toys around until I was tired then found an awesome campsite . Just spent a couple a days in salzburg and now sat eating an ice cream half way around the alpenstrasse . Its a hard life :)

Before leaving Lake Garda lasrt week, I was contemplating the Alpenstrasse and would have done it but for forecasts of thunder showers all across the area. So, when I got to the western end of Austria, it was glorious sunshine.

What is your take for it so far? Comparable to anything else?
