R1200GS rear axle leak question

First I am posing this question for a buddy, personally I ride 1150 GS's.
On the front side of the rear axle (hole in the middle of the axle) there is oil residue that dirt has collected. It seems to be a oily area and not a LEAK that would drip. According to the service dept. at the nearest (200 miles) BMW dealer at this point he should not worry about it. Just keep an eye on it at this point. This is a '10 R1200GS.
Just would like a few other opinions for piece of mind.
Thanks,
Izzy

Just a film? Don't sweat it. Keep an eye on it to see if it worsens, but generally they leak very slowly. Easy fix.
